Description
Fictional synapsids:Synapsid wyverns and their Relatives
Top: a basal synapsid wyvern, a small flying predator.
Bottom Left: The closest extant Relative of True Synapsid Wyverns, an arboreal Predator, that will also eat plant matter sometimes. I would call him "Synapsid Para-Wyvern"
Bottom Left: the "Synapsid Para-Wyvern" hunts a Suminia descendant, and the patagia which would become leathery wings in its flying relatives are visible.
Synapsid wyvern timeline Expanation:
Synapsid wyverns and relatives are either Theriodonts or very basal Eutheriodonts. Their ancestors branched of of other Theriodonts and became small creatures with burrowing skills. These creatures survied a mass extiction that was less svere than the Permian Triassic Boundary. Gordonopsid became mostly extinct and some Relatives of the Synapsid Vyverns filled their niches (seen here www.deviantart.com/mrantlear/a… )
Others became arboreal climbers and became predators of arboreal dicynodonts as the relative seen here. And finally some developed more advanced patagia and finally became the actively fyling bat like flyers that true synapsid wyvers are. Basal Synapsid Vyverns are not strictly carnivorous but the larger foms are for the most part.
Now the wolrd is dominated by Giant herbivorous Dicynodonts (kannemeyrids), smaller omnivorous or herbivorous Dicynodonts(suminids), and Synapsid Vyverns and their relatives, but non synapsid animals (Reptiles and Parareptiles) are important too.
This Creature is also from this timeline:www.deviantart.com/mrantlear/a…
