Description Here's the promised tutorial on making artificial fire, the tutorial was written for Paint.NET as that is the software that I use but I'm fairly certain this is transportable to Photoshop and possibly even GIMP.

For a life sample, I used the fire as a background to Dante's Inferno

Feedback, questions, comments, post below. If you use it to make something that you upload to dA, I'd appreciate a link as well.

Cheers,

Ghost

Awesome! I liked doing it! I am writing down everything I can do on here now. I think I'll plop some words on it and use it for a banner on Howrse . com!

glad it worked for you, anything you think I'd need to change in the tutorial, anything not clear?

Well it was the first time I used the RGB curve thing to colour it, and I din't understand that entirely, but after playing around with it a bit I got a good result.

Glad that it worked out for you, I'll see if I can reword some of that text and make it a bit clearer as to how you need to use the RGB setting. Thank you very much for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

ahh! repeat a dozen times?
good grief.

Ghost-Dreamer In reply to nosepilot [2008-03-09 08:33:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, you really need to de-cloud the cloud effect so to speak; it doesn't have to be a dozen times, just enough to mix it up and to get to where you like it and where it represents most the fire you're trying to create. I usually go for 14-16 times, but in PdN it is really easy to repeat the effect at the push of a button.

ohoh.
i dont know where i already responded to this.

yup.
thats the ticket.
repeat the filter to add random complexity.

Fire from clouds? That's freakin brilliant! I didn't know it would do that! Thanx, man!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ghost-Dreamer In reply to EricLinquist [2008-03-08 14:04:48 +0000 UTC]

you're most welcome. That's how I made the fire for Dante's Inferno, a couple of people were wondering how I did it so agreed to make an easy tutorial. The technique isn't mine, I learned it from someone else. I don't use Photoshop so I'm not sure if it'll translate directly but I do know you can cloud render in it and obviously that it uses layers so one should be able to emulate the above fairly easily.

Are we going to see fire clouds in the ANGELCorps logo now?

Nice AC reference! Probably have to do something uniquely "me" but it's a nice tool to have in the toolbox! Great tutorial! Thanx a lot!
