Description

A new OC! She's been in my mind for a long time now, it just took me a while to research.  The grey squares are her normal stats, the light blue are when she's channeling her dragon's power. The stats are subject to change, as she can vary the amount of power she draws.

**********
General

Superhero Identity: Ryuu
Secret Identity:  Kana Ikeda
Nicknames: Kanny, Spiz (Shortened from spirit)
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Nationality: Japanese
Residence: Osaka, currently Gotham
Height: 5'2"/157.5 m
Weight: 112lbs./51kg
Personality Type: ISFJ

Powers and Abilities

• Dragon Tattoo/Birthmark: The birthmark was passed down through her family, Kana's grandfather being the last to have it. Kana's mark connects her to the female dragon Kiyo, and through channelling it's spirit, Kana gains her power. This includes flight, enhanced strength, basic water and weather manipulation, and fire-breathing (to my knowledge this is specific to Kiyo). Kana's eyes and mark glow when in use. The more connected she is to the dragon's spirit, the more powerful she is and the brighter her eyes and mark glow.

 • Healing: When she was born, the birthmark was enchanted by a shaman that protected Kana from any spirit possessing her. The protection also makes Kana heal faster and increases her invulnerability. She can also offer a 'healing touch', but this takes up a lot of her energy.

Weapon(s) and Combat Style

• Weapon(s) of choice: None that she carries with her, but she is skilled at Kendo (Martial Arts combined with swordplay)

• Combat style: Judo and Ju-jitsu.

Personality

• General: Kana comes from a rich and regal Japanese family. She is quite optimistic and cheerful, but can be quite shy, which isn't helped by the fact that English isn't her first language, and will stick to people she knows. She prefers to disappear into the background at large social events, which is easy for her considering her tiny size.

• Traits: Shy, optimistic, cheerful, humble, caring, hopeful, understanding, kind, pleasant, innocent.

Quotes, Catchphrases and Trademarks

• Insults people in Japanese instead of English e.g. kutabare! = go to Hell! (… Nicer translation), baka = idiot, busu/minikui = ugly.

Background

Kana was born in Osaka, Japan, to Taro and Minako Ikeda. Her father, Taro, came from a long line of dragon-bearers; people born with the mark of a dragon and the ability to access that dragon's power. Kana's whole family were shocked when they saw that Kana had the mark, as she was the first female in the family to have it. For a while they didn't accept it, especially her father, but out of the fear of possession by a dragon, they eventually had a Shinto shaman bless the mark to protect Kana.

Kana's grandfather was the last person to bear the mark, and it was he who taught her the skills and knowledge needed to harness her dragon's power. After her first 'harnessing' at 11, they found out that the dragon attached to her was Kiyo, a woman-turned-dragon who burned her priest lover after he lost interest in her. Since Kiyo is associated with redemption and revenge, it was vital for Kana to be able to connect properly and safely. But Kana felt that she needed to prove herself to her father, and as a result nearly let herself become possessed. To offer extra protection after that stunt, the Ikeda family bribed a tattoo artist to tattoo Kana's mark with enchanted ink, gifting her with advanced healing and the ability to heal others.

At 13, Kana and her family were forced to move to Gotham for her father's job at Wayne Enterprises. From then on she had to learn English, and once she understood, would hear snippets of information about young superheroes. Kana knew that she had to do something with her power, as many of her ancestors had done before her. She begged her father, but he knew the dangers and banned her from using her powers. It wasn't until Kana saved a family from a house fire that he reconsidered, but insisted that her grandfather be with her to supervise her power usage. After a year of Kana frequently using her powers to protect the residents of upper-class Gotham, she was noticed by Batman and offered the chance to join the Team. She accepted, despite the disapproval she knew she would get from her father, but after persuasion from her grandfather, he finally came around to idea. So from that day Kana joined the Team as the hero Ryuu, the girl with the dragon tattoo.

Other Notes
Fears: Losing her friends, becoming fully possessed by Kiyo's spirit, blood/gore.
Hobbies: Watercolour painting, playing piano, gardening.
Has a Japanese accent, and if she doesn't know something in English she asks Luxlight (who is fluent in both).

Feel free to ask any questions, I'm more than happy to answer ^^

Do they act the same alone as when with someone?
She's very shy around people, even if she knows them. Acts a bit more freely by herself.Greatest Strength: Ability to get everyone to work together and see the bright side of everything.  She prefers to disappear into the background at large social events, which is easy for her considering her tiny size.

The thing you written above stated this and thus this isn't possible.  If she's shy then how can she ever get anyone to open up or people to work together?  She doesn't want to talk to people at all??  How does she want to make sure everyone is comfortable if she disappears every chance she gets??  You know what your traits sound messed up.  Mischievous and delicate is like the worst combination.

So I'm going to think that her dad works in Wayne industries before which is why they were appointed to move?  Because her dad's location moved right?  though he lives in osaka which is not even the main city like tokyo where the businesses probably take place.

How does one increases their invulnerability? Being invulnerable means that nothing affects her.  How do you add to that??  Also how does blessing give her abilities of healing and invulnerability anyway?  Does this human shamen have amazing abilities that can affect a whole person physiology?

So what side of the family is grandpa from.  Since he is the last holder of the dragon mark, then apparently his daughter or son did not get the mark?  If so why does it reappear now?  Why not then?

seriously what kind of dragon is this? it can control weather and water, and breathe fire.  Like theirs 2 different elements that clash right there.  and why can she be the only one to breathe fire?

If the father is so traditional why is he moving out where his family lived for a long time?  Like seeing his personality of how much he hates women to do things?  And are a modern family, not living at a sacred temple, like where does that shamen come from?

Batman I doubt would say "come join my team", he would be more like, "get out of my city" wouldn't he?

The link was more referring to the actual template, not the information underneath, as this is kinda old and I've thought about her a bit more. Everything you've pointed out is questionable info, so I'll try my best to explain.

Just because someone's shy doesn't mean that they can't talk to people. Kana isn't a recluse, she just doesn't have the confidence to start talking to a stranger. If there is a large group of people that she doesn't know then she'll try to avoid them, but if she knows them then she'll happily talk to them. I think you took the word 'disappear' a bit literally here too. I meant that she wouldn't be the centre of attention. The traits that you pointed out are outdated and don't apply to her now, which seems obvious because they weren't included in her recent bio.

Osaka is the 3rd biggest Japanese city. It's stupid to think that there would only be Wayne buildings in one place in Japan.

Her invulnerability is increased more spiritually than physically. Kana's powers are mystical, not scientific. She doesn't become invulnerable, but she can take harder hits and endure more than the average human. This is only active when she is connected to the dragon too. Kana wasn't blessed by the shaman either, the ink for her tattoo was. Ancient Shinto magic enchanted it to help protect her, and she can also use this magic to heal others.

Her grandfather is on her dad's side. The mark isn't given to the next in line, it appears on a worthy candidate. The gap can differ from the child of a dragon-bearer to their grandchild or more. Kana's dad was not worthy or strong enough to bear the power.

The dragon is Kiyo. It took a lot of research to find out about her, and there isn't much. I generalised her powers from other common Japanese dragon abilities and added fire-breathing because it's a core element of Kiyo's legend. Kana can't use these powers at once either, it takes up a lot of energy to use even one.

He is moving because of the money. He likes their rich lifestyle and in old Japanese culture the richer you are, the more power you have. He doesn't hate women for doing things, he just doesn't approve of Kana using her powers. He also a bit jealous that she was chosen and he wasn't. The shaman is from a Shinto temple, not the family.

Usually Batman would say that. But the Team is operational by then, and instead of having an untrained teenage hero running around upper-class Gotham, it would be easier for everyone if she had a place where she could be helpful and belong.

Hopefully this cleared things up, although I'm sure you have more questions.

well since you put this page down as a reference, I've suspected everything here was still relevant.  if not I'll do my best with what you given me then.

tho you did put this point down "She's very shy around people, even if she knows them." Still goes against what you said, if she knows that them then she will happily talk to them.  Because then it seems like she wouldn't be able to speak her mind easily.  Which can annoy some other kind of people.  Also seems kind of hard to be a team player based on the personality of being shy.  She doesn't want to fail so she doesn't have much confidence.  It seems sort or impossible,  maybe you can explain why this would make her really able to work with other people.

actually I'll give you this one.  Tho Japan is one of the biggest competitor to wayne corp. for the ship industries.  And osaka is the largest port company.  So wouldn't the father be working at his countries company then a foreign one?

Shinto magic is what i read, is using prayers and charms to help bless or purify and object.  Praying to a gods that exists in basically anything.  And they will do things like heal a small illness but nothing to big thus so they don't anger the gods.  Also they like having nature help them. (rationalwiki.org/wiki/Shinto ) Thus doing things such as healing people is not a basis of shinto.  Thus invulnerability and healing magic is kind of not possible.  Unless you found a way around this.

Then wouldn't it appear on a random person or a branch family or someone else then technically?  Why skip a generation.  It could just find a different worthy person instead?

Um, Kiyo dragon legend?  The same one about the yandere waitress that fell in love with a priest and chased after him after he left her and t learns magic to turn into a dragon or serpent and killed the priest with fire?  This is a shinto based tale tho.
or
The lady kiyomizu which is a water dragon, that helped two men and in return of getting to listen to some poetry she gave them food.  and this one isn't shinto related.
which one?  if you mean the first one.  it means vengeful power and such.  Why would that be an ancient dragon power to be passed down too.

Older japanese culture was all about status.  If you come from a noble family or have a noble blood line.  Tho thats like everyone in teh world. lol.  Plus if this a family that had a long line of family then they would have their own company instead of continuously working under someone?  Which would explain the rich lifestyle.  The father sounds like a kid and needs to grow up.  Like he doesn't love her I guess, because if he is more jealous of her having something he didn't have, instead of worrying for her becuase she has the burden he never got then I guess it's that kind of story.

Wait do they live in a old Japanese house, like the one thats big and have a ton of screen doors or like a temple?

WEll Im not going to say batman not going to like it, but more so since its the second season of yj, I can see it happening better than teh first.  Though its possible for someone like Nightwing to let her in.  Batman is a paranoid and unsociable thing anyway.  So I can't see him saying you may join the squadron.

I get how that could be confusing, I'll edit the info later to match up to the info in the bio.

I'll edit that bit about being shy around people too, because all I meant was that she isn't a loud person. She an observer and a listener, and that helps her determine a persons mood and what might be troubling them. I think you're over exaggerating how shy she is, I simply meant that she has trouble talking to strangers. She wants for everyone to be happy, and can give them a little pep talk to perk them up. I don't mean some great inspiring speech, just a little morale boost.

The whole of Japan is Wayne Enterprises biggest competitor? Seems unlikely and a bit unrealistic. The father would work for them because he'd be in a high position, hence the move to Gotham.

Kana's healing isn't a big part of her. It's something small, like stopping bleeding and helping relieve pain. I mention that above. Think of Kana like this: when she harnesses Kiyo's power, the dragon's spirit is surrounding her and protecting her, as she is its 'host' in a way.

The dragon mark can appear on anyone related to the common ancestor who first had it, but is more likely to appear on the person with the stronger connection. It also depends on the person's spiritual and overall strength.

Yeah, the first one. Kiyo uses fire, so it would make sense that Kana would be able to use that ability too. The reason for Kana's mark to be inked is because of how vengeful Kiyo's spirit is, and she is more likely to be possessed by her. Different dragons are connected to different dragon-bearers. Kana's grandfather would be able to harness the power of a different dragon.

An old family is sure to have its highs and lows. At some point they may have had their own business, but currently they don't. They are still a part of high society, but they may have once been even richer. Perhaps they're coming back from a low point and returning back to super-super-rich status from just super-rich. The dad does get better, but in general he's a dick XD.

I don't really see how this is important, but they would just live in a big mansion type thing in Gotham, and would've lived in a more traditional house in Osaka, with paper doors and such.

I'm basically imagining how it would go.  Maybe my imagination is way to much comparing to how you imagined it.  But seeing how you want her to be able to bring people together.  My main idea would usually be a person who can take leadership or has a strong personality.   Which could be my conditioning because I have yet to see a shy person bring anyone together.

"Even though the Newport facilities might appear to be WayneYards' prime competitor, it is actually the Japanese and Korean shipyards that are Wayne Shipbuilding's main competitors for civilian and merchantmen ships."  I got this out of a wikia.  Osaka is known for it shipyards.  Your father is a traditional man that loves his country right?  That would mean he has some sort of honor involved instead of power?

But like that isn't natural.  Like for illnesses, they might have way to help to heal faster but you still have to be strong enough to fight and go through the pain of sickness.  Also THAT DRAGON IS PURE EVIL, IT WILL NOT PROTECT PEOPLE.  ITS NOT EVEN A DRAGON.  IT S WOMAN THAT LEARNED MAGIC SO SHE COULD KILL A MAN WHO LEFT HER  and this dragon is a mystical form that can blow fire, I don't think it can control water and weather.

So their are other people out their that has a dragon mark then.  Not just her?

AGAIN THIS WOMAN ISN'T EVEN A REAL DRAGON.  like she's just a horrible woman.  Why would that kiyo even lend her power to people?  Like their is no reason for it to? And if its a tattoo fault.  how did she get born with a tattoo that automatically chooses the most vengeful dragon? like your oc's hobbies are gardening and painting and such, and nothing else in her persona that makes her seem vengeful at all.  how does she even draw in the power if she has no traits based on that power.

Honestly, I don't see why she just doesn't hate her dad for being a child.  (i mean my dad acts like a child and i hate his guts)  Because living in a tradtional household and stuff would prove they still have enough money to be able to maintain the house and area.  Thus would mean they had  steady income to be able to get this much, seeing how I doubt anyone else worked but the dad.  So he must have had a high position at his job.  And if he had this kind of house,  what makes him so keen on leaving it, just to move to america?  Just to get a mansion their.

(sorry for the grammar and misspells, had a long day today)

She brings people together because she is basically neutral ground. People go to her when they want to talk about their problems, so they trust her. This trust means that they will listen to her, and she can use this trust to boost the team. Again, I think you're taking the whole 'shy' thing a bit too far, as I consider myself a shy person but I apparently can get people to work together.

Ok so it's the shipyards, not the actually country. While Osaka may be a port city, not everything is shipping-related. The father is traditional and nationalistic, but he's weak and will give into the temptation of getting paid more. It just so happened that Wayne Enterprises would pay him more, and was more likely to hand out promotions.

It's not just the Shinto enchantment, its also the dragon as well. I quite like the fact that they are polar opposites, it balances out. Similar to that of Yin and Yang, despite that being Chinese. As I said before, weather and water manipulation was a common trait amongst Japanese dragons, and in the story I read about Kiyo, it stated that she also went to a river to do something (I forgot what it was, but she used water for something).

There is a possibility that someone else could get the mark, but it is rare for someone with the stronger blood ties to get it, let alone someone with little to no connection.

As I said earlier, it amuses me that they would be opposite. Kiyo would be looking for someone to channel her power through, and her aim would be to fully posses them and do what she wants. But the tattoo ink helps prevent that, and Kana knows when to stop drawing energy.

Kana doesn't really hate people. She accepts who they are and tries to work with them. The dad moves because he will get more money if he does. The Shinto religion doesn't really require much to believe and practice it either.

Ok i can see how people can confide her to talk problems with her, but that would mean she is not really shy, just doesn't like the mass attention. which is understandable if this is what your telling me. now lets get this straight, you do understand that even if people talk with her about their problems, that won't necessary make them listen to her.  Her opinions might matter more or be considered, but if she is "shy" like how i understand it, then she most definitely don't have the  ability of leadership.

Fine, if your so up with this.  What does her father actually do?  What does he do that would make him get paid more in wayne industries? And "promotions" would mean that he would be starting out in the bottom worker status, and unless he's paid with a workers salary, how does switching companies? jobs? actually help.  Unless of course that he actually was working as a ship yard worker or something, than that would mean he might not actually get hired by the wayne industries.

ok first you can and read about her right now, just search it up.  She turned into a dragon, chased him, he escaped by boat, she came after him (swimming) he goes to temple, hides under bell, kiyo then blows fire. he dies with the bell.  Now if she had some kind of water powers, than she could have made the boat sink or something, but she didn't. Not once has it told that she had weather powers or water powers.  she was a regular person, jealous, learned magic, turn dragon, murder.  Also like think about it can a fire dragon that has things in its body to help create fire to breathe out, use water, that can pretty much extinguish its flame which can be a danger to its own well being.  I'm well aware that you used other dragons as ref but try look at things at a more logical sense?

That doesn't answer the question, is their others like her?
You stated earlier that the mark isn't given to the next in line but instead it will be given to a worthy candidate.  Thus it wouldn't matter things about connection.  Like Your oc doesn't have a connection, the thing is that she was born with a mark that gave her a connection instead.  And if her family line is known to get teh connection it wouldn't really be rare for people with blood ties to get it?

Why does she want to possess her, what is the reason for this.  She is just a jealous women not some mystical thing that wants to destroy the whole world.  After all she only destroyed the man in teh bell and nothing else.  She did not burn the temple down or anything.  Their needs to be a motive, aim or even reasoning how this is happening.  this sounds so much like naruto and his fox demon relationship.

Indeed it does not, but to actually do shinto would requre things.  Like if you want good luck, let a sparrow go into your house.  Its all about nature and caring about the environment.

Doesn't the grandpa like his house that his family line been living in as well.  Wouldn't be against it? moving i mean?  Cause in traditional asian household the grandparents still hold power over their kids.

You know I'm actually gettin really confused with the tatoo ink thing.  Like she was born with a tattoo mark.  Like now you changed it, Like how does one even get enchanted ink?  If the grandfather never needed enchanted ink, why does she?  How would he know of this and never use it?

Ghost-Lyre In reply to criticU [2015-12-13 05:37:59 +0000 UTC]

I really don't see what else there is to get. She is shy, but she is comfortable with her friends and vice versa. You don't need to be a leader to be a good teamworker. Being shy isn't her main trait ok? It's just one of many, nothing depends specifically because she is shy. It's not hard.

Honestly I don't understand why you're so fixated on her father. What do you want me to say? It's for plot's sake? Osaka is a big city, just because it's a major port doesn't mean that her dad works there. It's naive and stupid to think that he would work there just because of his traditional mindset. As I said before, the family wouldn't be constantly rich. They'd suffer losses, and they're coming back from one now, so that's why the dad is so orientated on money if you really need an explanation for that.

I know the story. Stop right there with all of the 'logical sense' stuff. ITS MAGIC OKAY. It doesn't have to be to the letter with everything. There are different legends and myths that have different details, so who cares if my version is different. Am I not allowed to have a little creative freedom?

There is no one like her at this time a part from her grandfather. The mark continues down the bloodline until it reaches a suitable candidate. I already explained this.

When someone is born with the mark, that are automatically connected to a dragon. It just so happened that Kana's dragon was Kiyo. There is no system or order. It's just how it happened. Call it ancient magic or divine intervention if you really want an answer.

I get that. I know about Shinto. But it doesn't need to have these things to believe and practice it.

Kana's grandfather cares more about Kana than for a house. Sure he'd be against moving, but he'd go along with his family because they care and provide for him.

Let me clear this up for you. Kana was born with a birthmark in the shape of a dragon. This mark identified that she was a dragon-bearer, and acts as the channel to Kiyo and the spirit world. To protect her, the mark was tattooed over with enchanted ink. This ink also gave her healing and invulnerability. The ink was enchanted by a shaman, and as stated in her bio, it was because she nearly got possessed. If you actually bothered to read what I have then all of this confusion wouldn't have happened.

At first I was happy to answer your questions, but then you started focusing on irrelevant and useless things. You've also been a bit rude in your way of asking, so I tried being nice. I get that you're being honest, but kindness never hurt anybody.

Her fathers seems to be important for her backstory.  The main who went against her growth, the man who decides that the family should move for his need for money.  For your oc, he seems like a big person.  Like if he really needs money then probably he wouldn't buy a mansion but more like a regular house area.  Also their are other safer places like Happy harbor, central, and if going by money wise metropolis would be a good choice too.

Of course you allowed creative freedom, but have that creative freedom have some sort of back bone to it.  Magic even in DC has a logical sense to it.  Plus your thing is religion, I thought it was more like Diana (aka wonderwomen) whom was blessed by different gods.

Ah sorry, I took your information wrongly when you written "The mark isn't given to the next in line, it appears on a worthy candidate."  I thought it didn't matter who.  Why doesn't your family have branch families.   wouldn't it be better to have more children if their are chances that at least one of them would be worthy?

I think the deep problem here is that Kiyo isn't a dragon.  like she really isn't, even with creativity.  She's human that learned magic for shape shifting.

Shinto (神道 Shintō ?), also kami-no-michi, [note 1] is the ethnic religion of the people of Japan. It is defined as an action-centered religion, focused on ritual practices to be carried out diligently, to establish a connection between present-day Japan and its ancient past.  I mean also it based on need to be about purity.  Her dragon is anythign but purity.  Just to point out.

Try rephrasing that.  You talk about how grandpa cares for kana then puts down how he only goes with them because they feed him and care for him....but doesn't grandpa also have his own money and actually owns the house?

nono, I understood that.  I just missed the part where they bribed the ink artist to redraw ink on her?  I always thought the shamen did everything.  Also i actually read up on Shamanism.  I don't think Shamen's actually bless things to give them power?  Like shamen can heal people but only if they are affected by spirits?

hm? I'm just curious.  Because this and this happens or why does this happen instead of teh usual this or how can this do that. sort of thing.  Just be honest with me as well.  You don't have to be nice either so don't worry.

Her father is important, but to be quite honest, I haven't given much thought to him. All he was was a roadblock in Kana's path that she overcame with the help of her grandfather. I don't want to give him too much thought either, because then he'd seem more like an actual person rather than what he is - a challenge.

Her family does have branches, but the bloodline is stronger with her, and the mark always appears on the strongest. As with the children thing, it's all up to the parents. Not everyone in the family wants to be the parent of a dragon-bearer.

The way I took the story was that Kiyo turned into a dragon and stayed that way. Permanently.

All I'm getting at with the whole Shinto thing is that the family believe in it, and have for a long time. Eventually they would start to loose faith, as what happens with many religions, because of science and such. So the current Ikeda family does not believe in the faith as much as the Ikeda family a few hundred years ago would've. I know that her dragon is all about revenge, and as mentioned before, I like it like that. They balance each other out.

I was on mobile when typing that, so the whole thing seemed a bit disjointed. Kana's grandfather cares for her a lot, maybe even more than her father does. So in return, she'd look after him too. Her grandfather goes with the family because they care for him and so that he can train Kana. The father owns the house because he's the one with the job, he pays for everything. Some of the stuff that I need to explain really seems like it doesn't need explaining, and this is one of them.

I don't think it matters who put the ink on. The ink was enchanted to help protect her from spirit possession, so wouldn't that classify as a form of healing someone affected by a spirit?

Ah i see, okay.

Well not everyone in the family is going to suspect that their child will be a dragon-bearer.   Like they just marry cause children is a wonderful miracle (sometimes lol)

So like if a martian transformed into a dragon and couldn't transform back, would it now be a dragon or will it still be a martian?

I know that they balance each other out in your opinion, you referred to it like 3x already.  Im just more confused how the dragon would give any ability to her, since its basically a fire dragon.  Wouldn't her own ability is to breathe fire then.  And the point that the dragon seemingly had to swim across the ocean would say it couldn't fly.

I was only asking you to rephrase it cause honestly it made it look like the grandpa was really sad.  But yeah I pretty much understood what you were implying before.  Though no, the father can not own the house unless the grandfather passed it down to him.  House ownership is not given tho the one who has teh most money, its given to the one who actually got the house.  Example if i lived in the house with my grandmother who bought the house when she was younger, the house would belong to her.  Not me even tho I would pay for electricity.   Also Grandfather would probably be retired, thus given money or has savings, (the more you know)

Well I mean, no since the ink apparently gives her the ability to heal legit people and not people harmed by spirits?  plus it supposed to make the spirit sort of vanish or something and seeing how that can be wasted on someone who is instead trying to get powers from teh so called spirit,  plus protecting her from a spirit would require that the spirit can't hurt her nor do anything to her.  Means you can't draw powers from something like that? Well she isn't a martian and she used magic to become a dragon. This all dates back to thousands of years ago, so over time she would've become more dragon than human anyway.

Kana draws the powers from the dragon. My research has shown that most, if not all, Japanese dragons are water and weather based deities. I get what you're saying about Kiyo using fire, but I want to stick with general Japanese dragon abilities too.

Again, I don't see how it matters who owns the house. The house was purchased by the father, therefore making it his. The grandfather moved in with the family to look after Kana. You don't need to explain to me how house ownership works.

Look, you're kind of confusing me so I'm going to explain how I see it. The ink was blessed by a shaman, and that ink was put over her birthmark to help protect her from possession. The ink and Kiyo's power combined to make Kana slightly invulnerable and speed up her healing. She can use healing just like any of her other powers, but it just doesn't have much effect. She just uses pure magic to do healing, not Shinto.

or whatever she felt like anyway, she learned shape shifting magic anyway.  But it still the same concept, she was once human and shapeshift to a dragon, would you call her a human or a dragon?

But your dragon is not a general dragon right? Its a dragon with magical abilites based on vengeance.   So its main element would be fire. or typical japanese dragons are "The mystical dragons of Japan have the power to shape-shift and move seamlessly from one form to another or become completely invisible."  I would think she would gain these abilities instead lol.  Tho I can understand why you think she would get water based abilites.  From the site I read its states dragons represent water and such in Japan.   But like those dragons came from underwater, thats why it sort of makes sense.

Its basically the more you know information.  Just take it as something new.

Which reminds me, you haven't told me a purpose why kiyo whats to take over her body.  Kiyo isn't a thing that whats to destroy everything?  Just kill who her rivals or betrayed lovers in a bell.

Whats the point of a shamen then?  What god is he calling to purify this from?

I'm saying that she's a dragon because that's legitimately what she is. Sure she used to be human, but once she turned into a dragon, she stayed that way.

She may not be your average Japanese dragon. I get that. But as I said before, I'm allowed to use my creative freedom to merge the various skills and abilities that Japanese dragons are known for. Kiyo would be more like a western dragon if she could just breathe fire.

Kiyo doesn't desperately want to take over her body, but given the chance, she would. Not for any purpose other that to be fully in control.

The shaman uses Shinto-related magic to enchant the ink, but Kana's healing does not. He's not really purifying anything, just protecting.

your still not answering any of my things.  If a martian turns into a dragon and can not turn back is it a martian or dragon?? if beast boy turns into a dinosaur and can't turn back, is he a dinosaur or still beast boy? all in all it still the same concept?  If a woman turns in to a dragon using magic to change her form, is she still a women or a magical form of a dragon?  Like I asked this about 2x and you still have given me what you think.

You do know "Japanese dragons also only have three claws on each foot, and don't fly as often as they lack wings."  Which explains why your kiyo ran after the jerkish priest instead of flying after him.   And most Japanese dragons are water deities.  Thus yours is not a water deity you know?  Even you look at this creativity.

Why does she fully want to be in control, does she have some dark motive of wanting to fall in love and meet a new man and kill off any rival by burning them in a bell?  Like their are times where evil gods will want your body because they want to create havok.  And other times they want to do it so they can do some other thing?  Fate took over zattanna's father because he decided that he was done being not worn and it was time to fight.  If not no motive then why even try take over  (I don't know if kiyo chose to be connected or not?)

Oh heres another thing that popped up, is this connecting to an alive dragon or spirit of a dragon?  Because even if she dies a dragon (stuck or not) she would be women in spirit?  Then that would mean their is some sort of alter if its a dead dragon that holds the power of kiyo?

in the thought of protecting it would be things like shield or something to stop damage? wouldn't it? also "Shamans believe that all problems, physical, emotional or mental, have their root cause in spiritual imbalance." and "Many methods are used in shamanic healing, including soul retrieval, retrieval of a spiritual ally, removal of unwanted energies, soul remembering..." Well you get the basis.  Its basically dealing with the soul.  So you know i think you shouldn't use a shamen to give her protection?  I think you have better chances of instead using a magician or something

I actually did. I clearly said that I regard Kiyo as a dragon more than a woman, and it shouldn't be that hard to figure out because that's all I've referred to her as.

I get what your saying, you've said that a bunch of times. And I'm going to repeat myself again, because you don't seem to get it. I've combined Kiyo with the general Japanese dragon, therefore giving her water and weather abilities as well as fire. As for flying, Japanese dragons are known to fly. You need to remember that they are more spiritual than physical beings.

Look you're getting off topic here. But would you rather be in control of your body or have someone else use parts of you? Because that's the reason why Kiyo would possess Kana, if you really need one.

She's connected to the spirit. I don't really understand what else you're saying.

I meant my other example.   you haven't clearly give me an answer?  You just said things that shes not a martian or such.  I'm still waiting on what you think based on my questions.  A simple answer will be fine.  Either a martian or dragon. beastboy or dinosaur.

They are actually more physical god like beings.  They are not ghosts.  I just found info that told me japanese dragons don't fly unless they have a top knot thing.  And the thing is your dragon is a crawler.  I don't know the idea of something capable of using both water and fire seems really off.  Like even you give it the fact that it takes energy.  She can also control the weather.  I don't just think its possible.  I don't even see anything about a dragon being able to control weather??  AND like you can merge it if you want.  But their should be some basis.  You said their isn't enough info about her.  But the storie surronding kiyo says alot.

I really don't think I'm getting off topic, I think it is part of the web of your character.  But the thing is your dragon human thing is a vengeful ghost.  Their would be no reason for her to actually give powers in the first place?  Like wait, is it being forced or no?

So you gave up on the points i gave about shamnism? lol

Your dragon spirit, why is it still on earth?  Why hasn't it passed on, What is keeping it here?  If it stays on earth, where is it residing.  Its basically that kind of question.

Ghost-Lyre In reply to criticU [2015-12-14 05:59:29 +0000 UTC]

The martian and beast boy question is irrelevant to Kana, so I'm not going to bother answering it.

I never said that they were ghosts. I said that they were more spiritual, and was implying that things that apply to physical beings do not apply as closely to them. In many artworks I've seen of Japanese dragons they have been in the air or amongst clouds. This lead me to the conclusion that they could fly and had weather-related abilities, and I've read articles that say the same thing.

Kiyo doesn't give her powers to Kana. When Kana is born with the mark, an automatic connection is established between them. Neither Kiyo or Kana have a say in the matter, it's just fate or coincidence that they get paired.

I missed that bit about Shamanism, I was on mobile. I see what you're saying about the shaman, but the family wouldn't go for anyone other him because of his relation to Shinto.

The spirit is in the spirit world. That's how Kana connects to it.

Honestly, I don't want to continue this. All I'm doing is repeating myself over and over, and it's getting annoying.

nono its relevent to kiyo.  She was a woman who used magic and got her form stuck a dragon.  So thus my questions are relevant. since its bb turning into a dragon and staying like that.  would that make him into a mystical dragon or is he just bb?

oh which article?  I read articles that state stuff like "Asian dragons can fly due to a knot on top of its head called Chi'ih muh which magically enables it to fly. Some dragons can also live underneath the water and were believed to reside in large bodies of water such as lakes and oceans."  since your saying that

kiyo (who was originally human if following the original story) did get a mark by random because of this "higher power" Then we can say that kiyo got forced into this deal.  Another thing is that this mark is supposed let her use kiyo's ability (with or without), thus giving her powers.  But this ability makes kiyo might be able to take over her? Even though kiyo is a dragon or what ever else where?  Also shintoism is all about asking the gods to heal you.  Thus having a god or a supernatural being to be forced into this is not what the idea is about anyway.  Can't kiyo just cut off the power source?

no i meant like shintoism is all about having alters for the gods where humans can communicate with.
"The kami reside in all things, but certain objects and places are designated for the interface of people and kami: yorishiro , shintai , shrines , and kamidana . There are natural places considered to have an unusually sacred spirit about them, and are objects of worship. They are frequently mountains, trees, unusual rocks, rivers, waterfalls, and other natural things. In most cases they are on or near a shrine grounds. The shrine is a building in which the kami is enshrined (housed). It is a sacred space , creating a separation from the "ordinary" world. The kamidana is a household shrine that acts as a substitute for a large shrine on a daily basis. In each case the object of worship is considered a sacred space inside which the kami spirit actually dwells, being treated with the utmost respect."
So if your saying that she is in the spirit world then what stopping this dragon thing from passing to the afterlife? (you know heaven)

actually your just being really stubborn and refuse to think about the questions I ask.  Your repeating the same answer doesn't answer my questions at all.

I must admit, when I read an Asian character for YJ, I usually get put off because it's packed with "Robin-chan" and pop culture and very little stuff that would actually go into a comic. But I must say I really did enjoy reading it.

I know that some Japanese OCs are very anime-like and stereotypical, so instead I wanted to explore the history and mythology of Japan. It's very interesting and I enjoyed researching it. I kinda based Kana off one of my Japanese friends, so hopefully that makes her more realistic. I'm glad you like her.
