Description
So in case anyone forgot, way back in Volume 4 when Yang's prosthetic arm was first introduced they made a point of showing that Yang was very reluctant to put on the new arm. Also, probably to keep the prosthetic a surprise all of the Volume 4 promotional material depicted Yang with one arm. That actually got me thinking: what if as part of her recovery process Yang took longer to accept the new arm, like she felt unworthy of it, and trained to fight without it and even learned to fight with her stump. Sort of a way for her to come to terms with her loss and accept her new arm as just another tool/weapon and not something she could not live without...And I will just drop the facade right now, I just really wanted to see Yang beat someone senseless with just her right arm stump because that sounded simultaneously hilarious and badass. I am not criticizing how the story actually progressed, so if you plan on commenting just to bitch about the writing do not. I decided I might as well draw this scenario since it is looking less and less likely it will ever happen in the show proper. I also took the opportunity to knock some humility into Jacques Schnee and make what I feel to be a long overdue Red vs. Blue reference. Yang's adoptive daughter*: (blinks) Wait a second: how do you beat someone to death with their own skull? That doesn't seem physically possible...
Weiss: (shrugs) That's exactly what Jimmy kept screaming...

Jimmy: (currently being beaten to death with his own skull) This doesn't seem physically possible!
Yang: (gives a dark chuckle) Hey, no need to lose your head over it!

Weiss: (gives a light groan, even as she shakes her head in amusement) To this day, I STILL have trouble understanding how she could joke about the whole thing...or why she insisted on using THAT joke in particular...
* what can I say? Yang just seems to me to be the kind of girl who would adopt some kids of her own when she gets older even if she never got married, just to try and be the mom that she never had growing up, and something tells me that Weiss would be an honorary aunt to any and all kids she might adopt, seeing how she has stated how team RWBY is like family to her, you know what I mean?

Winter: (suppresses a shudder at the memories of how her father had tried to seduce a married woman when her mother had turned to alcohol; how he had turned to trying to create a robot duplicate of her after her untimely demise*) You're not the ONLY one (sighs) Polendina...PENNY: I don't know Miss Rose...RUBY all that well, but I DID know her mother, and if she's ANYTHING like her, if you apologize to her after all this is over, if you...give her the option of starting over, she'll take it: it'll take time to for the hurt to heal, but in time...you WILL get your best friend back (clears her throat) For now, though, we have a job to do

Penny: (horrified) He kept trying: he kept trying to get her "right"...
Winter (looks on in horror at the army of "Summer-drones", all of which were deemed "failures" by her father, stood before them, looking every bit as confident and deadly as the woman herself): (gulps) Do you...think these things are anything like the real deal? (a quick preperation for battle by every single one of the drones show that, yes, they DID share at least SOME of her characteristics, most notabily her combat expertise)
failed Summer-drone (surrounded by hundreds of her "siblings"): (steps forward, speaking in a slightly deeper tone then the original, a twisted version of said original's confident grin on her face) You are in SO much trouble right now...

* I know how messed up this is AND that this isn't how it worked in the original script, but for some odd reason, it just seemed right to me: from what we've seen, Jacques is OBSESSED with perfection, power, and profit: having a powerful huntress like Summer Rose on his arm would, to his own twisted mind, fit all three criteria; admittedly, I might just be reading too much into things, but Jacques was the only person in universe that seemed to fit the bill of playing the role of "Director" and this is MY attempt to explain who would be this world's "Agent Texas"; if you disagree or have an alternative suggestion, however, fill free to use it...

Summer A.I.: (blinks for a bit, before nodding) I...yes, that's right: I had a daughter; two, actually: one of them...her own mother left and I stayed to take care of her, eventually coming to see her as my own; something happened, though: I remember a man approaching me and...I never got to see them again after that: I can't seem remember what they look like, though, or even their names, but I know I loved them; I wonder how they're doing right now...
Yang (barely suppresses a growl as the final pieces of the puzzle came together: Jacques had kidnapped Summer Rose and tried to brainwash her to be his perfect wife shortly after Willow's mental collapse following Weiss' disastrous 10th birthday; when it didn't take, he tried copying her mental patterns into a robotic shell to try and make a version of her that would submit to him eventually resulting the original Summer's mind being a shadow of it's former self): (breathes) They...they grew up: they never stopped trying to live up to her expectations; the adoptive daughter...she followed your example, trying her best to look after her sister
Ruby: (nods with a sniffle) ...and the sister never stopped loving you: neither of them did: you...you'd be proud to see how much they took after you: how they followed in your footsteps to become huntresses like you
Summer A.I.: (takes the all in) So, they became huntresses... (nods, looks to them) ...did they make some good friends? Are they happy?
Penny: (places a hand on Ruby's shoulder) They've had some rough patches, but I can safely say that they have PLENTY of support and that they turned out alright all things considered...
Summer A.I.: (gives a tear-soaked smile) Good, that's...that's all I ever wanted (looks to Yang and Ruby) You two: what are your names?
Ruby: (sniffles) It's Ruby: Ruby Rose, and this is my sister, Yang Xiao Long
Summer A.I.: (smiles with a nod) I don't know what it is exactly, but you seem like good kids: I'm sure your mother's VERY proud of you (sighs even as Yang and Ruby give a tear filled smile) I'm sorry, I'd love to talk some more but...I'm just... (sighs) I'm just so tired...
Penny (looks to Yang and Ruby for confirmation, who both nod, despite the tears in their eyes): (nods) Listen, Summer, I need you to rest now...
Summer A.I.: (gives a bitter laugh) Rest huh? I'd honestly like that...
Ruby: (sighs) Mo...Summer, we need to go now, but you just rest: goodbye
Summer A.I.: (scoffs) "Goodbye": I don't know why, but I HATE that word

Blake: (blinks) Uh, Winter's already tried diplomacy and Yang's our resident bad cop: I mean, I get it: your team is currently captured or worse by the mercenaries, but...well, no offense, but what exact methods are YOU going to try that we haven't already thought of? (needless to say, everyone was unsettled by the maniac look in the girl's eyes)

mercenary: (snorts as Octavia approaches) Ooooh, what's the matter? Did blondie get tuckered out? What about "Agent White"? She send YOU to try and negotiate my surrender?
Octavia: (gives a seemingly harmless smile) Did you know where we are? (chuckles at the confused look she gets) Ah, I remember volunteering with my parents at a research facility just like this one: built to research the surrounding wild life, it's got ALL the bells and whistles: a decked out laboratory, an incinerator, and all kinds of state-of-the-art surgical equipment (gains a crazed look on her face) Would you like to see them?
five minutes later, outside...
Ruby (stand stock still as the mercenary's screams continue to assault their ears, Octavia's singing opera doing NOTHING to take away from the implied carnage): (gulps) Weiss? I'm scared...

Summer on the video: (sighs) ...but I suppose I have a little time to see your kids: maybe some day our families will play together; after all, you know how much I hate "goodbyes" (the door to the room closes as a gunshot resonates through the halls)
1) my best guess as to who would be the Meta/Agent Maine in this universe
2) be honest: can you NOT see him being a potential casualty in this whole thing, both in show canon and in this alternate narrative?
3) my attempt at explaining Penny's existence, though for the record, Jacques had to sneak that coding into her programming and once he discovered it, Dr. Polendina (aka her creator/father) tried his best to remove any malicious coding from her system: about the only thing he didn't touch was her desire to be close with Ruby and Yang, as he figured she might do that on her own
4) I know that this wasn't in the original script, but I couldn't help inserting this into here...especially the Failure part: felt it might help drive home how selfish he was being when even Summer herself, or at the very least the MEMORY of her, is disgusted with this whole thing; also, just for the record, Fear (Eta) and Happiness (Iota) WERE in fact AI fragments from Project Freelancer; don't believe me? have a look: rvb.fandom.com/wiki/Artificial…
5) just for the record, Jacques IS acknowledging that Penny was a success, but his wounded pride won't let him fully acknowledge it, if for no other reason then he knows deep down that the success belongs to Dr. Polendina, not himself
6) remember that argument that happened on Weiss' 10th birthday? I'd like to think that this might have been a line that Willow threw her husband's way: "You know for someone who's so obsessed with perfection, you sure do make a habit of flat-out ignoring your own flaws!" not to mention my way of making this a way to make the moral being about humility rather than grief...not to say that grief wouldn't play a part in all of this (the section of Ruby and Yang saying goodbye to "Summer" is proof enough of that), but Penny...when she realized her flaws, she accepted them: it took them a while to deal with them, but she ultimately had a good enough handle on her pride to know the flaws were what made her "human", where as Jacques, as I've said, is OBSESSED with perfection, going out of his way to eliminate anything would bring flaws into his life, and here he is, for the first time in his life, having to face the fact that he himself is flawed, having it shoved in his face by an extension of himself...and he's just too far gone to accept that life could continue for him as a result; he'll leave the Schnee Dust company intact: there are still people who can run it, and it IS his legacy (his pride wouldn't allow for it to just disappear like that), but as to everything, and everyONE else? well, you know what they say: "Pride comes before the fall"

Winter (having reacted too slowly, quickly gets pummeled by their uninvited guest): (grunts as she gets up) Polendina, I need armor enhancements!

Penny: (worried) Uh, that doesn't seem like a good ideeeeaaaaaah! (having thrown off-guard by Winter accessing the enhancements anyways, she doesn't immediately realize what's happened when Winter suddenly stops dead in her tracks) Huh? (looks up to see Cinder creating a sword, immediately realizing that the Meta has used her own time dilation*4* to hold them in place; groans) Oh, fudge... (momentarily panics as they're thrown back a ways before turning to Winter with a growl) Dammit! Okay, focusing on the healing unit... (pauses) Winter, can you hear me? (instead of answering, her partner roles to the side, grabbing a weapon she dropped earlier in the fight and unloading the entire clip into their opponent; Penny smiles as Cinder falls to her knees) You got her! (immediately loses said smile as the Meta gets back to her feet) Okay, seriously: WTF?!*5* (begins to panic as Cinder proceeds to try and knock the stuffing out of Weiss' older sister; just as the Meta is about to cave her head in, however, Penny decides to try something crazy) Hey, wait wait wait wait! Wait, hold up! (briefly cringes mentally as Phoebe, Patricia, and Priscilla all appear before her and go "It's her"...obviously for different reasons*6*...to which Cinder only responds with a growl, though she DOES stop her would-be finishing blow...which gives Penny an idea) Uh, hey, so I know that about to pummel her white-haired face in, but you also only talk in grunts, so I'm just going this one line for you, okay? Qrow: No, this is Penelope. My A.I. fragment.
Penny: What?! THIS is what we came here for?! Your insane A.I.?! Why?!
Qrow: Because Pearl was right; memory is the key.
Penny: But what does that mean?
Qrow: It means that this is how we take down Project Huntsman. Penny, you know the story of the Four Maidens, right? Well, here's part two... the Summer Maiden eventually found out that her father had been reincarnated as a man by the name of Ozpin.
Penny: Beacon's headmaster?
Qrow: Yes. And during this reunion, he decided that he didn't want to see his children suffer the same fate as him; being killed and reborn forever. So he developed a new way of keeping them intact by creating artificial bodies for them. The Summer Maiden would be the first and last one to try this.
Penny: Why? What happened?
Qrow: Jacques Schnee happened. He stole the Summer Maiden, thinking it was some kind of artificial intelligence. But they couldn't figure out how to replicate it. So instead, they decided to COPY it.
Penny: How did they do that?
Qrow: They found a way to make the Summer Maiden fragment and relinquish a portion of her soul; kind of like taking away a personality aspect from someone with multiple personality disorder. Then, they gave these fragments to their huntsmen. Summer Rose, Ruby and Yang's mother were given Priscilla, the Maiden's rage. Agent Silver was given Pearl, the Maiden's logic. And I was given Penelope, her memories.
Penny: And memory is the key.
Qrow: When I was integrated with Penelope, I started seeing flashes of her memories. I saw everything they did to the Summer Maiden. If we can get Penelope to the authorities, we can shut the SDC down for good.
Penny: But how are we going to get Penelope to relinquish the memories? Won't she go insane, again?
Qrow: Not if the real Summer Maiden coaxes her.
Penny: But we don't know where the Summer Maiden is!
Qrow: You really haven't figured it out yet?
Penny: What?
Qrow: It's why you survived Pyrrha's attack at the Vytal festival. Why you can possess other people. Why you can exist without a body. Why you listen to everything Pearl tells you. Why you weren't affected by Priscilla
Penny: ... what are you saying?
Qrow: Penny, there's no such thing as a synthetic person capable of generating an aura. *1 But there IS a Summer Maiden... it's YOU.

Penny/Penelope: (nods) You know, the more memories I sift through, the more that sounds like a good plan

Penny: (shakes her head) Yeah, sorry: there's a LOT of memory for me to sift through, though I might be able to pull up some of Jacques' files if you give me some time...
Winter: (nods) Well, you'll have plenty of time on the way back...
Penny: (winces) About that: is there any way we could back that won't involve me carrying you back?
Winter: (chuckles) WOW, Penny: I didn't take you for the kind of girl who got easily flustered (gives a cheeky grin) Tell you what, you can tell everyone else that you "picked me up": how does that sound?

Winter: Green was... different. He didn't fight for an A.I. or screw over his friends to get a better rank. He said that he was just doing a job for a simple goal; to live alone on an empty island with a red sailboat, a nice hut, and a pantry full of spiced rum... he did it.
Qrow: I... I didn't realize you two were close.
Winter: We weren't. He and Silver were drinking buddies.
Qrow: He chose her over me? That's insulting.
Winter: The point is, he planned a life after being a huntsman. He was able to move on. And I'm wondering what I've done to deserve the life I have now.
Qrow: Hey, come on Ice Queen. Don't be like that. Look at all the good you've done.
Winter: I've gone from a dishonorable killing machine to a n honorable killing machine. (Scoff) Some difference.

Qrow: (shakes his head) Whatever she is, she's not Summer, not really: she's just a shadow...
Penny: (glares) DON'T! Call her that! Like I said, Jacques was OBSESSED with her: she died in real life, having FAILED to be swayed into his "good" graces, and that's all he ever remembered of her! So now, no matter how tough she is, no matter how hard she fights, she's always going to FAIL! Because that's what she's based on: no matter what she's doing, or what she's trying to accomplish, JUST when her goal is within her reach, it gets yanked away. Every. Single. Time. Can you imagine what that's like?

Priscilla (having found what she was looking for): (gives a self-satisfied smile) Yes, we will be joining you shortly (as the trio leaves, the symbols, combined to form a symbol that years later would become the infamous mark of the Meta, flickers ominously before vanishing)
1) seems the most logical person to play the role of the Counselor; also, for the record, he's in the dark about the majority of Jacques' secrets at the point in time

I mean, I'm her sister: it's my job to be concerned for her...but you? The only times I've seen someone other then family THIS concerned for someone else was when they... (pauses, then gives Weiss a teasing grin) Finally decided to give Ruby the booty call, eh?
Weiss (fighting back a blush): (glares) Yes, Yang: I am DEFINITELY going to chain the girl two years younger then me to my bed before you or any of her other family members has even given her "The Talk"...
Yang: (gives a flat look) Yeah, the sarcasm is VERY much appreciated
Weiss: (sighs) Look, I'll admit that I'm fond of your sister, but I'm not sure that she and I are quite that close at the moment (raises an eyebrow) Also, we're just going to have a sarcasm battle right now, right?

Weiss: (winces) ...maybe we should drop this conversation and just get back to looking for Ruby

Summer: (gives a sheepish grin) Sorry, sweetie: I somehow doubt that'd make it in time...and even if they did we'd STILL be going in mostly blind: we don't know WHAT sort of surprises we'll find up there
Saphron*2*: (clears her throat) I know I'm new to this, but any particular reason that Penny is the one coordinating this? It's my understanding that she wasn't the leader
Penny: (shakes her head) ...it's not that Summer or Ruby COULDN'T plan this out: it's that Paulette EXPECTS them to plan this out and thus is fully prepared for anything they would throw at her (clears her throat) Anyways, the plan is for us to divide our forces: Summer, Yang, Weiss, and I will be taking the back way in, deal with any forces we come across along the way and free the hostages
Yang: (blinks) Wait, what about my kid? Paulette seemed pretty set on getting her digital hands on her, so I can't just leave her out in the open
Penny: (sighs) Actually, that's EXACTLY what you're going to do: like you said, Paulette is set on getting a hold of Holly*3*, so that makes her the perfect diversion for the majority of her forces...but don't worry: I'm going to have Blake, Neon, and Saphron watching over her the whole time
Ruby: (smirks) Me too!
Penny: (shakes her head) Sorry Ruby, but no: you and Team JNPR will need to watch Sheila
Summer: (nods) She's right: if the transfer gets interrupted, we might lose her AND any information she might have for good
Penny: (gives a stoic look) Plus you're our backup in case anything goes wrong on either end: any of us start panicking and you're to come in ready to break some legs
Nora: (smiles) I like this job already
Yang (sighs as they get ready to move out): (takes a knee in front of Holly) Well, darling, looks like it's time for your first day in the field: I know it's only been a few days since you've shown up, but you're going to need to be brave, okay?
Blake: (looks to Weiss) I'm conflicted: on one hand, I'm a bit weird that she's being so affectionate with something that's half-grim; on the other, it's nice to know that my step-daughter's got a supportive mother
Weiss: (nods) Yeah, Yang can be dense at times, but even I'll admit that her physical strength is only exceeded by her big heart (gives a deadpan expression) Also, as admittedly romantic and sweet as it is that you're already referring to her kid as your step-daughter, I'd like to point out that the two of you aren't married yet
Summer: (gives a cheeky grin) Keyword being "yet"...and to be honest, I wouldn't mind a few more grandkids (smirks) Which reminds me: any romantic interests that YOU would like to share with me, Ruby?
Yang and Ruby (together): (blushing a bright red as they both groan) MOOOM!
Penny: (sighs) Summer, stop teasing them (gives an impish grin) You'll have plenty of time to do that AFTER we return with the hostages and regroup to discuss our next move
Yang: (groans) Yeah, not looking forward to that (sighs and looks to Holly) Oh well: sweetie, looks like this is it...but don't worry: we'll have some plenty of time to do some family bonding when this is over (smirks) ...but for now, it's time for you to show the world what I've been teaching you, so let's get out there and kick some butt

Neon: (shares a groan with everyone else) I'm starting to worry about what ELSE you been teaching her...

1) yeah, I decided to more-or-less completely rewrite this scene as the RWBY cast are smart enough to recognize a trap when they see one
2) who I envision playing the role of "Sister"
3) seeing how the name "Junior" was already taken in RWBY canon, I had to make something else up, and for some reason, the idea that the half-grim child that you brought up earlier would wind up a girl and/or would have this name in particular just wouldn't leave my head for some reason
4) for the record, Holly's vocabulary is rather limited at present: half-grim or not, she IS just a few days old at this point...though needless to say, she's already picked up her mother's love of puns

mercenary (who from the sound of it, is coming closer): Whatever it is, it sounds like it's coming from around this corner...
Weiss: (gives Ruby a level stare) You can rant at Nora later, but for now, I suggest we make a retreat
Blake: (shakes her head) We don't know how many other guards are nearby: we could get caught!
Yang: (growls) Well we can't just stand here like idiots!
Jaune: (pauses) Wait, guys, I've got an idea!
mercenary (having reached the others): (blinks) What the...? (screen pans out to show five snowmen just standing there; groans, before pulling out a radio) False alarm: just a bunch of snowmen: Charlie*1* must be playing another prank on everyone... (raises his gun with a smile) Oh well: not going to say no to some free target practice: I'll report back in an half hour or so: Perry*2* out (puts away the radio before cocking his gun, giving a smug grin as he does) Sorry, snowmen: this will hurt me more then it's going to hurt you (a gunshot goes off before the mercenary known as "Perry" falls over dead)
Yang (blows some smoke off the barrel of her gun, having put a bullet right between his eyes): (smirks even as the others use some snow to hide his corpse) Huh, you were right: I don't feel anything at all!
Weiss: (shakes her head) I still can't believe that worked
Jaune: (shrugs) Well, to be fair, I used the same trick to get away from my seven sisters before I came to Beacon
Ruby: (stares at her friend, having come to learn some of his history) Jaune, you constructed, and hid inside, a SNOWMAN, in a warm forested area*3*

Saphron (currently looking at Jaune, who is attempting to hide behind a rock and a pile of melted snow...in the middle of summer*4*): (gives a smug grin) Hey, girls: I found him!

Jaune: (winces) Admittedly, it wasn't always the perfect plan...
1) just for the record, I'm still on the fence about whether or not this will be a background character a la Agent Green/Illinois; also, I'm aware that this isn't how it played out in the original script, but I don't know: just felt a bit more natural to me, you know?
2) I'll leave it to you whether or not it's the same Perry that showed up a few times when Roman Torchwich worked with the White Fang
3) we're never told in the show exactly WHERE Jaune grew up, so I'm just going to assume it was similar in climate to where I live: cold enough to occasionally get snow (in the winter time), but warm enough that it doesn't always stick around even when it DOES show up, if you know what I mean...
4) before you get on my case for portraying Jaune as stupid here, for the record, I could easily see him storing up some snow for his sisters to play with during the hotter days of the year and would potentially use some of that stored up snow to try and hide during those times...and given how it's implied that he's TERRIFIED of some of their habits, can you really blame him if he panics every once in a while and forgets to THINK?

Penny: (blinks) Wait, it can turn invisible? How is that possible?
Qrow: It takes equipment from other huntsman, ESPECIALLY those that worked with Project Maiden: it probably managed to nab stealth tech from Summer somewhere along the line
Penny: (looking nervous) Uh, so it can use ANY equipment?
Qrow: (quirks an eyebrow) Yeah, why?
Penny: (pales) Oh, shoot: Agent Black!* Cover me!
Qrow: (blinks as Penny runs to another spot) Wait, Tyrian? Oh, shoot! (looks to Ruby) Ruby, grab those sticky grenades and help me cover her...
Ruby: (nervous) Uh, actually I...
Qrow: (scoffs) Oh, come on: I know you're still learning how to fight without a weapon, but how bad can your throwing arm be? (as if to answer his question, Ruby reluctantly grabs the nearest grenade she can and tosses it...right into the wall they were using as a cover; he groans) That was the worst throw ever. Of all time.
Ruby: (glares) Well, EXCUSE me: SOMEBODY didn't think to add grenade tossing into my training regiment (they decide to put off this argument to later as they ran with the remaining grenades for cover JUST as the one Ruby tossed goes off)

Blake: (gives a comforting grin) I'm sure that she...
Yang: (groans) It's just all so messed up! I've got SO many questions racing through my head, and Penny, the ONE person who MIGHT have some answers for me, isn't even around to give them anymore!
Blake: (sighs) I know it's hard, but...
Yang: (growls) I swear: sometimes it feels like I'm trapped in a video game, or an attempt at making an anime, or even a fanscript crafted by two random guys on the internet...and I'm not even entirely sure that they're both actually GUYS!
