Description
Contract number- ddgx-0911-001Planform model- version 3.0
Class name- MONITOR
Designation- Destroyer, Guided Missile (DDG), Mk 1
Vessel Niche- Warship, medium range patrol, picket and fleet support
The MONITOR class is a guided missile destoryer. Basically, she's all torpedo tube: 5 launchers forward and 2 aft for 7 tubes total. Like the COMANCHE and VALHALLA, she's also heavily armored and highly manuvourable. Unlike the other two, her phaser banks are actually earlier units from the COVENTRY and KRONSHTADT, mk1 hulls: the Type X. While she appears to have an even balance of directed energy weapons and missile weapons, the majority of her phasers are located dorsally: 7 banks with the 8th located on the ventral surface of the engineering hull. They are designed for close in support during a strike run and to augment a massive forward brace of torpedos (3 torps per tube per salvo= 15 max).
MONITOR is not a long range patrol or exploration vessel and many of her systems are heavily automated. Her cargo bays are internally connected and are used as torpedo storage bays. The MONITOR carries a mix of the standard MK 90 photon torpedo and the MK 2 Quantum Flux Torpedo. In combat scenerios, three MONTIORs form an assault wing that can deliver a massive number of torpedos on target during a single run, allowing for the capital vessels with the longer reaching and heavier phaser arrays to finish off a target as the MONTITORs sweep back around for another run.
The MONITOR's AUGUR III tactical and targeting arrays can be tied into the tactical systems (AUGUR IV or SCIMITAR II and higher) of most of the larger ships of the line i.e. the FEARLESS, COMANCHE, VALHALLA, ROMANOV, and REGENCY to name a few. This allows for the MONTIOR to track and engage multiple targets that are within that particular DDG's torpedo range.
While her phaser banks are of limited range and capacity, the MONTIOR sports an improved shield generator systems, heavy albaltive armor, and a nimble point defense grid that allows her to cover other vessels with her specific area.
