Cataclysm is a good xpac because it finally integrated the story with the consequences of a giant god-like being affecting the land. The land had been affected by Deathwing's passing.
What they got wrong is the story itself. That it could have been the first time we had the main baddy in the xpac be redeemed because Chris Metzen said he wanted to do a redemption story. Neltharion would have been great for that.
He's truly a previous protector of the planet, he is necessary for the health of the Aspects, who are the maintainers of the planet, but no, they didn't. Chris Metzen chose fucking Illidan Stormrage got the redemption story. Fuck that emo twat!

Out of all the things that I thought were pretty lame with the ending of Cataclysm, the angle of the remaining Aspects losing their immortality was one thing that actually impressed me. When these four pass, their titles and duties will pass to the most qualified druid/shaman/mage/seer alive at the time. Much like how Thrall became the new Earth Warder, it won't necessarily be a dragon. It opens the door for all species to take a position in this group that supports the existence of life on the entire planet. We take responsibility for our own existence, instead of putting faith in demigods.
What I'm reading in the comments of all dragons going infertile is complete new to me. I didn't see anything about that in Mists of Pandaria or Warlords (not that the dragonflights had much presence in either). I found this passage from Dawn of the Aspects on Wowpedia. I'm not sure if it's just referring to the four aspects, or all dragons.
"...and her ability to lay more had been forever taken away, but in addition to all that she lived with the knowledge that the other dragonflights had also suffered so. She might have accepted her loss of power, but not this loss of her kind’s future."
But if dragons are going the way of the dinosaurs, that sounds like crap. I would want the races of the Horde and Alliance (and more) to take the role of the dragons because we're recognized as EQUALS, instead of being what the world has to SETTLE for because the dragons forcibly go extinct.

I TOTALLY Agree with Neltharion I hated that cinematic I wish there was a way to save him he was too awesome to be killed in my opinion and this made me laugh all the way I agree with him

I will say this, if you honestly want to, I can show you the series that I have written that has Nel not only survive, but has him redeemed.
It's on a small hiatus right now, but there are three stories that have been finished. I'm just giving Nel a small rest so I can return to him with even more gusto and love.

I see. Just that from where I was standing, it could have been on an account on another site. For instance, I stopped posting on deviantArt and started up an account on ArchiveofOurOwn, a non-for-profit site set up just for fan fiction but writers.

I may not have played the game, but I AM familiar with all of the lore. The ONLY way that this ending could work (in my opinion) would be after deathwing was struck down but BEFORE he died the old gods removed their corruption. Nel apologizes and hopes that they'll l forgive him and with his dying breath, warning them to not underestimate the influence of the old gods... Then this cut-sceene would give us better closure as to why they became mortal... But that's just myOoption

That was an ending I wanted if they were going the killing off the Earthwarder route.
But I much rather him survive and then see his character develop in the aftermath, what he does to try and straighten things out, that sort of thing.

No other fanfic does that. They all have him die at the end, which is a shame.
