Original Sketch: 5.5x7.5Medium: Ink

This was conceived in my daily sketch routine, and it kinda grew up to more of a completed conceptual character illustration. I'll definitely revisit this in a larger format on Bristol board using brush and ink instead of markers like I did here.
At that point, I'll put her in a proper environment.
As is usual, a story has started to develop around the character. So far, I know she lives in Texas, probably in the future tense, and one of her favorite food is fried shrimp. Beyond that, I'm not really sure. Maybe by the time I get to the finished image, I'll have a little more to go on!
As always, thanks for looking!

I would definitely like to see more of this character. Great design.

Interesting piece. It has sort of an apocalyptic feel. Correct me if I am wrong, but is that Texas on her belt buckle? Which, I suppose, would make sense because she lives in Texas (lol)...

A very dynamic capture of the character. Very eye catching.
I will look forward to a more finished conceptualization.

Thanks. It may be a little while before I get her down in a finished state. I've been doing a lot of sketching this year, trying to morph the style a little. The best way I've found to do that is just put pencil to paper and see what comes about!

Nothing wrong with that at all. Especially when it produces fun little pieces like this one.
She's very dynamic. The curving twist of her torso is perfect, both for the basic figure work, and for exposing her personality. The muscle sculpting and landscaping is very nicely done. The face, eyes, hair, accessories, all push her personality.
As a sketch, it carries the full promise of being a great foundation to take to a richer, deeper level of execution, should the mood ever strike you.
Even at the speed level this seems to indicate, you really got a lot of life out the lines. She makes a great near focus, off center element to play against a deep, far expanding perspective that could be spread out, moving away, behind her.
A dozen more >sketches< ...(gawd, I love it when someone really good says "sketch"...then you see what they call a sketch and just fall down and drool like the unworthy wretch you are) ...this good will be lots of fun to look forward to...

Thanks, Stuart! Trying out some new subject matter. I usually lean more towards fantasy, so I thought I'd go with a present or future character. Still haven't decided on which she is, yet.

Thanks, Jeff (for the fave, too)! This past year, the style has been changing a little. Where it's going, I'm not real sure, but some parts are becoming a little more graphic in nature (more solid blacks), and I think the line work is becoming a little more looser, depending on the subject matter. Nothing drastic, I feel, but we'll see.

Excellent work Master Bob!
I'm a fan of the intuitive stroke that markers can have rather than the careful consideration of quill and brush...

Like her, not sure about her eyes, where she's looking. I think she has a half mustang half Akahl Teke stallion and an American Native Indian dog. Oh, and she also loves black licorice, ELO and Jewel. Well, that's my imaginings....Be interested to she who she really is.

Cool. I like the half breed horse, and the ANI dog would fit right in. The others would depend on time and place. I'm not sure if there is electricity where she's at...
As for the eyes, I think it is some kind of night vision contact lens. I don't really know why I left them like that. It just seemed to fit!

GN has been purcolating. When I was doing the strip, I was writing it, to a large degree, week by week. I was utilizing an outline of the overall story, but it was still being constructed as I went. The last number of years have allowed me to flesh out a lot of the story and work with several story arcs, as well as re-write some problem areas. She'll be back, hopefully all the better for it. Thanks for asking!

I really am looking forward to it. If you turn it into a graphic novel I'm interested in getting a copy, just so you know.
