Well, it was combination (no pun intended) of things. I've always loved taking old forgotten franchises from the 80s and revamping/updating them with more modern designs, so GoBots were a perfect choice! When I started researching them I found out about Machine Robo and couldn't believe how awesome the original source material was. So when I managed to get my hands on a new copy of the Hanna Barbera GoBots movie, I kept looking at it and thinking 'Dangit why did Hanna Barbera ruin you guys?!' I had seen some episodes of the newer Machine Robo Rescue from japan, and although they were very kid-oriented, I thought they had real potential to be super-cool if someone would just put the time and effort into making them cool. So off to work I went!
That and I just got really tired of TF fans who had only seen the crappy U.S versions of GoBots pooping on them and having no idea how awesome they were in Machine Robo, especially since the animation alone blows away most of G1.

O.O I don't really like how the Gobots look. your designs are lovely by the way. But I don't think it's the type of show to get into. Leader-1 kinda reminds me of optimus primal from beast wars and Cy-Kill makes me think of any of the Megatrons.... bwahahahaa! I think i remember watching Gobots once or twice when i was little. I never really understood it.

The Hanna Barbera cartoon for GoBots is very hard to watch, I'd say one of the best episodes is maybe on par with one of the lower end TF season 1 episodes. Machine Robo though, that make you say Trans-what?? Well, maybe not, but it certainly helps you forget the shoddy treatment the franchise received in the U.S. You should do a search for Machine Robo o n Youtube and see what pops up, I know they have the intro floating around.
