I applaud the premise, and think that further expansion upon it is warranted because there is a lot more plot in Evil Dead that could be exploited in this sort of homage. A 3 to 4 Mosaic series would cover it nicely.

It's about time somebody thought of cyber-zombies! Really, this is a neat idea. Thanks for bringing it to the forefront.
Specifics-wise, the colors you used for the laser blasts really popped. Nice effect indeed.

Want to see it redone. I get the point of it. It just seems like it missed it somehow. The second dialogue panel being "I hunt Cyber zombies is just...odd." No lead up. No connection. Not even to Evil Dead as far as I can tell. since, yknow, the evil got into the arm and then he (Ash) chopped it off and started going to town on deadites. I'd recommend setting in a few more dialogue bubbles to make it seem less stilted.

One thing:
To all the people who comment on these pieces -
personally, I appreciate your honesty, as well as your right to have an opinion, but please, keep one thing in mind:
This is not pro work. Nobody got paid for making this piece, nor did you pay to read it, and it didn't ruin anything forever.
Post whatever you feel is right, but try to remember that.

Thank you for stating this, Div! Many Mosaic posters never seem to say something nice. If half the artists/writers/etc were pros making a living on their art, I could see the negativity both as views from the posters and in regards to the artists. Sadly most of the nay sayers griping never seem to find anything right.
With that said - I really like the colors of this and the way it's drawn. The dialog isn't half bad though a bubble or two could help lengthen the story ^.^ It's one of those comics that you can't help but want to read more. (Outback = Groovy!)

I saw it, too. It's quite possibly a look into what happened to Outback, and how he lost his arm.
The way I see it, this comic shows Outback's final thoughts as he succumbed to the same condition that Kup suffered in the Spotlight issue.
Also, as for the reaction to the 'jab' at Don's style in the comments...dude's pretty much got a right to say what he thought of it. I'm a big fan of Don's, but not his new style. But if that's what he wants to do, I'll respect that.

I agree. It's very detailed work and a testament to Don's habit of going the extra mile, but the movie style just doesn't look good. I don't mean the way he draws it, I mean the Movie style in general.

Why is it that lately whenever one of these is posted a lot of people feel the need to trash these? There's a big difference between supportive criticism and just taking jabs. I see one person in particular here who seems to make it his job to start rants against people who are simply doing this for fun(And I've seen there work and it isn't exactly breathtaking). There is no money in this, people. Contributers are doing this beacuse they love Transformers and want to tell a story be it epic or just a fun innocent gag. It's a harmless jab at the new "style" that we've seen of late. The funny thing is I bet you people who are criticizing that were probably the first to criticize the style itself.

I'd have to agree. Ironic, since I am guilty myself of trashing an earlier Mosaic, but you do have a point. Dude's just subtly ribbing at Don's new style, I'm not seeing him tossing a boiling cauldron of hate butter all over it.
I'm also surprised that people are going all up in arms about the subtle jab at Don's style, but completely missed the point of the comic being a precursor to Spotlight:Kup.

CroctopusArt In reply to NewEraOutlaw [2010-04-05 14:14:57 +0000 UTC]
We're all guilty of it from time to time. I see it mostly in forums for established works (I.E. movies televison, books, etc) but it's steadily increasing here. I'm willing to bet that most of these people, if confronted by the creators wouldn't say a damn word to them. That's the beauty of the internet. Anonymity. "I can say whatever I want and I don't have to worry about seeing the people I trash.
Constructive criticism is always good though and a few people here did use it. Some of them are great creators too so it is justified, but it really annoys me when the more abrasive comments will come from people who have no right (In other words, their gallery isn't exactly brimming with great works) to say anything. Could that be a bit of jealousy? Anyway, getting off of my soap box. This was a fun peice and the creators will hopefully move forward and create even better works!

Yeah. Dyemooch offered some pretty good advice, as the story was lacking, and many people did miss the fact that it was an extention of Kup's Spotlight issue, but all the same, why the hate just because of a subtle ribbing?
On a positive note, I do like the art. It's very true to the respective characters, and detailed as well.

actaully this forum has always been harsh for critism, at least more than the idw forums and seibertron forums. i think it is because people in the devart forums are artists too. i am not sure which is better more comments or more favorites. so far this one has been getting al ot of favs. i wonder what the artist has to say about all this?

I think that's a bit of a generalisation. There's plenty of folks on DA who don't really showcase artwork here.
What's always at the front of my mind when I see unpleasant comments on these strips are the lessons I learned in my secondary art education: That it's outright rude to give blunt, uninvited comments on somebody's work.
Some folks seem to take it upon themselves to act as pro critics on these pieces - and it's honestly the least helpful attitude they can take.

Jeysie In reply to hde2009 [2010-04-05 15:41:49 +0000 UTC]
Er, obviously comments are invited, or they'd be disabled.
And giving criticism is actually quite helpful, as that's part of why DA exists in the first place--giving feedback on works. And giving feedback doesn't mean giving nothing but praise or never being critical. If all you get is praise, you'll never grow as an artist, because you'll never know what you might be doing wrong.
There's nothing rude about giving criticism, and you need to learn to accept that fact, as your regular complaining about how people dare to say anything other than praise is really tiresome to constantly read here on the Mosaics.

CroctopusArt In reply to breaker82 [2010-04-05 15:23:58 +0000 UTC]
Yes, but a lot of the really harsh ones come from people who have no right to be that way. When I'm selling books at cons and meet with other artists, we're not tearing each other a part. So I don't think it's an artist thing per se, but just cutting someone for the sake of it.
That's great that it's getting a lot of favs though. Kind of like a certain summer movie from a year ago. So very cool to trash it and say it was a flop even though it made a metric ton o' cash in ticket sales, merchandising and dvds.
Exactly when did the fan community become such backstabbing snobs who hate on everything yet secretly like it? It's like the guy who says, "this toy sucks! I'm only gonna buy 2 now, not 3 like I usually do! Hasbro, you suck! Even though you're responsible for creating the thing i love, I can't stand the fact that you make toys for kids and not exclusively for me! Boo!"
Wow! I'm full of vinegar today! Ha! I

Quoted. For. Absolute. Truth.
Fanboys need to chill the hell out. It's okay to not like something, but what's accomplished by pouring on the scorn?
If you don't like something, just make your peace with it. It's not for you. There'll be another one in a few days, and there's already literally HUNDREDS of these things to browse through. There's no need, and certainly no excuse for off-colour commentary.
It's a bad trend that needs to stop. Nothing will kill the Mosaics quicker than this vein of discouraging commentary. And none of us want that, right?

Once again, the fanboys take things far too seriously! I think the simplicity of the story is apparent, as it is meant to be a tribute to two things the artist loves. I personally think the art reminds me a lot of the style that was used in a large number of Third Season G1 episodes.
You guys just want to slam anything that you don't like, instead of offering a little constructive criticism. If you don't like it, no one asked.

Definitely not a fan of this one.
I love zombies- and I LOVE Transformers Zombies- but I kind of feel like this has a bit of a harsh jab at Don's stuff for Ongoing. To each his/her own, but in that same extent, it's a minor deterrent to me; not a big deal, though. The lack of a real story or ANYTHING that could help us "understand" this character is the bigger issue. It's just a quick parody comic that would be hilarious as an inside-joke between friends, but not that great to everyone else.
And, to be nitpicky, if these were zombie-mech, they should definitely be a little more corroded/grunged up. Ironhide and Thundercracker are just their Ongoing/Don-drawn selves; and everyone else is pretty much just slightly battle-damaged... but then, that's probably just me being a zombie-geek and is just a preference that zombies(bot or organic) should have definable decay on them
tl;dr- Kudos on the attempt- but I feel like the execution just kinda fell flat.
I would like to see this strip revisted with some actual content.

i understand how you feel esp. since both of you work for idw. however there is not much more to say. perhaps this artist feels that the new style of drawings is not as good as pat lee's Dreamwave comics. it seems that the new style has more of the dull surprise i have been reading about.

Oh I'm not a professional. I want to be someday, but I'm not right now. Thanks for the vote of confidence though.
Hey if somebody doesn't like the faces, that's one thing. To "write" a Mosaic where one character is killing them is going a bit too far.
Anyway, what bothers me more is the lack of any real plot or characterization. It's an action sequence with a cheesy B-action movie line. Nothing more. Mosaics are generally used to showcase the personality of a character or some plot concept, like the excellent one we had before this. "Evil Dead" just has no substance to it.
And how is the creator ever supposed to grow if no one points out their mistakes?
