I think I got it on first read that it was probably early in the war - after all, Optimus wasn't there to hear Magnus say that line during the TFTM events, so it could hardly be Optimus stealing Magnus's line (which means Magnus stole Optimus's line).
I also like the idea that Optimus was not perfect early on in his career as a Prime.

Oh no! Prime NOT being perfect? GOOD. I liked this one alot. Thank you for it. That being said, artwork is a bit rought and could use some polishing. Not bad, just seems to be unrefined.

I think is a good idea.. Somehow in the looooooooooong war before coming to Earth, Prime must have got some difficult choices, and with some depiction of Megatron being a ruthless Con,definately Prime must have lost bots in their battles.. This losses might have made Prime push himself to better protect the people under his command
Specially at the begining when Optimus did not felt well with the responsibility of being a leader..
But in the practice, it does not clarify, we see a bot, firing against.. the darkness?? A phrase tell us that others might be in danger..
But apart from what he is saying, there is nothing there that confirms the impending danger..
And yes.. Michael By's Optimus almost felt like an uncaring Bot

I know this is supposed to be serious (thanks for the backstory, JediFlaherty) but all I could think of when I saw the 4th panel was "Dude! Now you're stealing my LINES too??"
Sorry, sorry. Nice commentary on how Prime could also make a big roaring mistake. I could see how perhaps 'Magnus remembered that moment, perhaps too late, after he heard Prime's hasty words come out of his own mouth...

Real quick: this was written a million years ago. It was one of the first Mosaics I wrote.
It's meant to be very early in Optimus's career, before he became the heroic leader that we all know and love. Ken did a fantastic job using the cast's G1 designs, but it was written intending their War Within designs to place the story in time.
The yellow fellow is no one inparticular, so only Prowl and Ultra Magnus know about this secret shame. Overall, my idea was to make Magnus a little less douchey in The Movie because even the great Optimus Prime can get overwhelmed.

I don't mind the depiction of Prime coming off as a douchebag (let's be honest, almost every mosaic is just someone else's non-canon approach to a particular character or situation), I just don't understand what is going on. Am I the only one confused?

So the yellow 'bot is causing the cave in and is going back to kill the left behind Autobots?

I'm agreeing with you on this.
I know this depiction of Prime goes against how we think of him in our minds. But it was brave of this team to go with this idea, just for the sake of doing something different. And it is only a story after all.
If that's not enough to make them chill, they should take a closer look at the title and realize that the story is about "Optimus_Prime", not "Optimus Prime". ;D

Actually I am very much FOR a more developed, rounded version of Op, but this segment doesn't pull it off. I think it would be refreshing to see him have to make choices that get his hands dirty. However this just makes him look lazy. Maybe, as Jedi Flaherty, states it was written a long time ago and wasn't his best work.

You're right! It needed to be longer, or at least have more depth to the story telling. There's too much room for the reader to assume Prime is a careless commander as it is written now.

Yup. I think Mosaics are like haiku poetry (and no...I don't write them. I know better.) You got just so much room to get your point across and every word/panel counts, and I'm sorry, some stories need more room to evolve.

Ummmm, NO! Enough of Furman Prime. Optimus isn't Magnus or Hot Rod and would never do this...

Sigh. Wow, is this one disappointing. First, the line in question from TF the Movie was not one of shame. Just practicality. "I can't deal with that now," implies it will be dealt with LATER when their own ship isn't in danger of coming apart at the seams. YOu won't do anyone any good if you die yourself in the attempt. Plus. if you are on your way to save a whole world and you lose some folks, well, you need to have your priorities straight.
Second, Op is, if anything, MORE idealistic than Magnus and less likely to leave people unless ridiculously necessary. Being chased by maniacal Cons with superior firepower, maybe. A rock slide? I don't buy it.
I like the basic idea, but some things perhaps need more than one page to develop.

It's pretty much the same thing that Animated Prime did.

Yes, but not in a one page script. New movie Optimus did it too - when they left BB to the humans to be tortured, but at least they learned from the infamous Magnus line and let him explain himself. Mission priority makes sense with both Magnus and Bayformers Optimus. A rock slide does not present a clear and present danger.
I think it is a good concept. I just don't think it belongs HERE -at least without a stronger reason to leave someone behind.

Very interesting character development and take on that line. I suppose it could have happened in the past. I like the art too.

I like it. It's like a defining moment that could shape both characters. Prime is harrowed by it, and never wants to let it happen again. Magnus doesn't like it, but he can see the nessecity.

I can deal with it.
The guy who abandons his fellow bots is named "Optimus_Prime". Most of the commentators seem to be confusing him with the more awesome "Optimus Prime". Just look at the title! ;D

Maybe not in the old ones. (armada, unicron, etc.)
But the newer portrayls of him, like the '07 movie, suggest otherwise.
But I agree, that does sound more Magnus-esque.

Maybe that's why it's his "secret shame"... the memory of the time he had to leave someone behind has stuck with him, and it so troubled him that it made him into the bot we all know: The one who'd never leave a 'bot behind.
Still, it's an action that seems very unlike something that Optimus would do... that's why it's still making me scratch MY head...
