Description
Shed only just met the herd, and was already snatched for the second time. She'd hadn't made it easy, kicking and squealing as she was nudged and pushed and nipped away from her new home, alas to no avail. It was only after they had left the safety of the plains, where she'd grown up and where shed hoped to stay for a long time with Yashmir and his herd that she realized she held all the power here. It was in a thicket of white papery birch where she planted her feet; a snort ringing loud as she glared at the stallion- ears pinned dangerously."I'm going back to my herd. And you will let me" she snarled, hooves stomping in indignation. What she hadn't expected, was his laugh to ring out amongst the trees.
"Oh yeah? And how do you plan to survive in this forest without someone to help you?" he asked. That had Dahlia confused, what did he mean by survive? Was there dangers here she didn't know about? What would happen if she left him and tried to make it back on by herself? Truthfully, she didn't know the way- the speed that this stallion had made them move was such that she couldn't make sense of what direction they even headed into; let alone where to head back home.
"Well at least tell me your name?" she asked, her huff moving the dust at her feet. The stallion moved a little closer ears pricking forward in curiosity.
"My name is Druig" he replied.
"And like it or not little princess you're sticking with me."
----------------------
The next few days were a blur. There was bouts of them running, then brief rests to graze and slowly get to know one another before Druig set the pace again. It felt like they were going in a large circle; almost- but not quite leaving the forests protection. It was unsettling, Dahlia was so used to sun and sky, and feeling the wind that every little sound in the trees made her jump. The nights she barely slept, barely even rested; she felt like every rustle of a branch or twig snapping would be her end.
On the third night, she was curled up in the dirt in almost what seem to be a deer's thicket; branches around her from the bushes making a little nest of sorts. She heard sounds around and there may have been a brief exhausted whimper that she was embarrassed to admit had come from her throat as she listened to them. It was still cold from winter- It's last fingers grasping at their hides before spring blew it away.
So she lay curled, shivering, exhausted, and feeling very much alone. She was surprised to hear Druig approaching her in the thicket, head snapping up and mane bouncing as she looked at him. The pair had become amicable some more, finding out about him, what he left behind and what he stood for; and he found out things about her, her family, what she hoped to achieve and how she wanted to live. Even still it was a surprise to see him come and even more to have him curl up beside her and rest his head on her back.
Maybe they'd become friends after all?
