Ok, so one day when I was browsing Deviant Art I wound up randomly finding pages 34 - 37 of this issue by themselves without seeing ANYTHING ELSE!!!
So with the little information I got from this,
My conclusion was:
Tails Knuckles and Sonic fell into a lake or ocean somehow,
And Tails and Knuckles were too worried about saving their own skins to worry about the fact that Sonic can't swim.
So Sonic was basically left for dead,
But then Shadow and Silver save him.
I was more than half expecting to go to the next pages and see Shadow and Silver RAGING at the others for just FORGETTING Sonic.
The two other hedgehog's pretty much acting as Sonic's brothers.
