Description

Inspired by a stunning image created by a DA friend [link] While it's obvious I'm still quite a novice at drawing certain aspects of this drawing seem to have come through quite nicely for me. Some proportions appear to be off but I think this piece actually helped me to get more involved with my shading. before this I had been very light handed. I was able to apply it a little harder to this one.

very good overall. I think you could really improve the impact of the drawing by increasing the contrast (ive been trying to do the same in my own work). Plus as Im looking at the original model, There are a lot more darker shades especially in the lower body. Just work in some darker shadows throughout and I think you'll be in good shape!

Believe it or not this is actually heavy handed shading for me. LOL Thanks!

don't be afraid to go even darker. a safe way to experiment with this is to print out a photo copy of your drawing and do more shading over your photo copy. darken your background and even your shading and see how it looks. that way you can get an idea of how it would look without the risk of ruining your original drawing.

no problem. i actually got the idea from my digital media professor at art school. well, indirectly anyway, he inspired the train of thought that sparked the idea, lol.
