Description
The image represents my vision of Morgoth, Tolkien's first Dark Lord. I tried to capture his power and malice, his dark essence rather his physical appearance (which was so masterfully represented by Ted Nasmith, John Howe and few other artists).Related content

I've made "Morgoth" myself by using different PS tools, particularly smudge tool. Thank you very much for your comment.

I can't believe I didn't comment on this before!
The picture is... simply excellent. Hands down on that one. Despite it doesn't aim to show the things most regular pictures of the Black Enemy are centered on (the armor he always wore or the malice-filled expression he always had on his face, for example) it shows other things about him I think people tend to forget: his ethereal nature (he looks like a wraith here) and the fact he was basically the representation of Evilness and corruption in Tolkien's Middle Earth (a much more physical enemy than Christianity's Devil, for example). The red color was an excellent choice, as is demonstrate his anger and sheer power, and the way you've drawn and painted his cloak is superb.
Even if he's not wielding his mighty hammer at the moment, he looks incredibly menacing and powerful (in fact, so much more than a regular "dark knight", given he looks more demonic and invincible this way). If I had been Fingolfin the High King of the Noldor... I would have CRAPPED my pants at the sight of THAT enemy
Awesome!

Sto se tice edita, smanjio sam velicinu slike i stavio watermark. Kada ides na edit, imas opciju da obavestis ljude koji te gledaju o izmenama. To sam upravo i uradio. Mislim da se to ipak ne registruje u dnevnim promenama.
Hvala ti puno na podrsci i interesovanju! Videcu da izbacim nesto stvarno novo sto pre. Sve najbolje!

Dude. This looks so awesome.
I never finished the Silmarillion... I got half way, then it got to me. Its not the easiest book to read...
I thought Lord of the Rings (The book, not the movie) was a long slog, but the Silmarillion...
Still, this image is excellent. It has an amazing aura of evil. And if there's on thing I love, its an aura of evil!
10/10 - because more than 10 is illogical, and I'd hate to cause the universe to collapse in on itself.

Thank you very much, dude! Yeah, I'd hate if universe was to collapse on itself. That would certainly ruin my day!
I have a thing for evil auras as well, and making Morgoth was a lot of fun, I can tell u that!

I do love this picture though!

excellent piece, i definatly added this to my favourites. i always thought that morgoth bauglir was the most evil of all fictional villians, tolkien really out did himself there. i like your rendition of him as i think this is more how he would look in essence rather than in battle, especially when he was with ungoliant

Gileryd In reply to SubtleHustle [2006-10-26 18:25:26 +0000 UTC]
Thanks for your comment! Yes, this is how I see his dark essence. With all due respect to Howe and other great artists who portrayed Morgoth in their work, I could never really match what they drew with the image I had in my mind when I read Silmarillion. I always thought that there had to be more to him than what meets the eye, and I hope I was successful in conveying that in this piece.

Absolutely wonderful! Morgoth wasn't so bad, he was just... fallen
and in this picture I see his dark majesty and amazing power. Black and red are my favourite colours. What can I say... I love it!

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment. I'm glad you like it.
Hehehe... I dunno, Morgoth was pretty bad to me. A perfect villain. Tho, you're right, I did want to capture both his majesty and his dark power. I wanted to make him somewhat ethereal, and I think the cloak achieves that effect. It gives him form, yet leaves so much unrevealed. Hope that makes sense.

Nicccccceeeee, I like the style and the colour palette...
And I like the more sorcerer-or look to it.
The Ted Nasmith's version is more warriorMonster like... though it could be little more fightereLike...
Also the colours of that helmet glow is kinda off the palette, don't you think? Or maybe they just need more solid base, some object contour in the center... dunno...
Great work btw

Ah! Yes, I did the drawing of Morgoth's figure first. I actually drew a Nazgul, but then I kinda spontaneously changed it into Morgoth when I began to work in Photoshop.
