First off you need to get a tablet (mouse just won't do), and for starters I suggest you get ArtRage2 (it's pretty cheap and very easy to use and intuitive), then you could do as I did and browse trough ArtRage's forum to see other people's WIPs and tutorials, then just play a bit - let loose.
Then if you feel ready to spew out more cash you could get CorelPainter, it's a pretty powerful tool, and is more pro then AR, but it lacks AR's ease of use.
And in the end when you sit down to paint something, stop thinking, get in the groove, and paint; scrapping stuff is inevitable, so don't get discouraged if you do something completely wrong, the process of painting is what matters, and not the painting itself...
I may, in the near future put up some tutorials for AR and CP here, so keep an eye out for that.
Good luck with your painting.
Cheers, gg...

I think it'll be finished in a day or less... Is going a bit slower now that I took all the parts that were interesting to me, I usually avoid painting backgrounds, and scenes... But hey, I think this time it will be very much worth it...
