Ginger-Sama — Impossible Occurrence?

Description This is the 10th concentration for my AP computer graphics assignment. The concentration was on toys. Here I took one of the impossible shapes and LEGO-fied it a bit, and put some LEGO bricks swirling around it. The fractals in the background I made swirl in and around the shape to give it some dimension. Made as a hybrid Illustrator rendering/Photoshop piece. Enjoy!

Way cool! It's like one of those M.C. Esher (spelling?) pics, but more colorful.

The LEGO look is a nice touch!

Thanks! This one took about half a week to finish. Thanks for looking over my art!

Ah, these are one of those impossible figures. The Lego theme works well here with it. The colors seem really random, but I suppose it works out here.

I especially love the swirls here; those are great for moving the eye around the composition. The blue/purple colors in the background with the swirls are actually very calming.

I'm thinking you could touch up the actual Lego bricks when revision time comes. They look a bit blurred/pixelated when it's full-viewed. I'm also wondering what that yellowish oval is up near the top of the picture.

Otherwise, nice work and cool idea. To be honest, I've never seen abstract art and Legos put together before like this.

I was trying to go for a sense of randomness, so I guess it works.

Yeah, the blue was originally meant to be a test color, but I ended up going with it.

The oval is the original stud template that covers the impossible shape-It's something that I meant to get rid of, but I can't now.

Well, now you have.

Good thing it worked out to what you originally planned to do. The blue also worked out quite well, even if it was only an experiment for you.

How come you can't get rid of it now? Did you lock the layer or merge it or something? You could either paint over the spot with a new layer or use the Clone Stamp tool to fix it if worse comes to worse.

Serendipity strikes again!

Well, given the fact that it's situated directly over the fractal, that's harder than it looks.

Just like Jonathan's "Happy Accidents" on his Op Art Concentration?

Like I said, you could screw around with the Clone Stamp and Healing Brush tools to fix that. It might take some time and tweaking, but it'll work out eventually.

Pretty much. How does he even make those abstracts?

Yeah, I hope so. ^ ^

From what I've seen, he's been screwing around with a mix of Illustrator blending techniques [that I taught him, mind you], fractals, and Layer Styles in Photoshop.

It'll work, trust me. If that technique can take all the acne off a photo of my face, it can surely work to remove a little oval from your art.

Is it just me, or is everyone in our AP class except for us addicted to layer styles and filters?

I hope so. I'm surprised Finch didn't say anything.

Layer Styles are useful, especially the Gradient Overlay of late...

He probably didn't catch it when he went over your print. I dunno, though.

He may have just ignored it.
