Description
Two aspects of this drawing gave me no end of trouble: the hand holding the fan, and the underskirt.

The problem with the fan came from the fact that I couldn't FIND a fan anywhere, so I couldn't determine how one was held. In desperation, I finally asked one of my brothers (age 15) if he knew whether we had a fan in the house. Sixty seconds later, he was back with a fan. He even agreed to pose holding it for me (but he kept laughing!). Still, I couldn't have done it without him.

For the underskirt, I had originally intended to draw a swirling design along the bottom edge, but I couldn't get it to look right. I didn't want to leave it blank - since my drawings are in black and white, it lacked visual impact without some detail to hold the eye. I forget now what made me think to quilt it, but I think that ended up being just right.
