Description
Paint/Photo: MyselfModel: Tyranid Carnifex by Games Workshop
Conversion: Using about a pound of green stuff I added a bunch of left over bitz from the current plastic Carnifex kit to beef up the size of it's stunted metal ancestor. I also added the tail tip from the Trygon Prime seeing as it fit the whole mega poisonous looking theme I was going for. Also I further customized the dreadnought base it's standing on. In hindsight I should have painted the base before attaching the Carni... it would have looked soooo much better.
Keyword: Hive Fleet Cetu
10E Update: With the launch of 40k 10th Edition comes a new "official" color scheme that embraces the black and purple. There are lots of us out there now, and it seems the hive mind noticed us! So, while I have enjoyed running Hive Fleet Megadeath all these years, they will be absorbed into the newly minted Hive Fleet Cetu.

a few hours dry fitting bitz to get the design figured out, 2-3 hours for sculpting/assembly, 10 hours to paint.

OMG1111!!!! I have two questions, How did you make the carapace that pink and dark purple? and how did you make the electric green colour? This is exactly the paintscheme I was aiming for when I started painting my first tyranids a few days ago but all I have is the basic citadel set and some old citadel paints.

oh the part with the Dark Green Ink: use it as a wash! let it sink into the cracks and look like slime.

I use Vallejo Game Color paints for the most part.
CARAPACE
1) I spray them all black with Army Painter black primer.
2) First color i put down is Royal Purple.
3) Dry brush Hexed Purple over the Royal Purple. Lay down extra Hexed on the large flat areas and across ridges.
4) Drag your brush across edges and details with Warlock Purple twice. Wait for the first pass to dry then do the second.
The Venomously Green Bitz
I'll be honest with you on this part... this was trial and error. This particular model I must have used a dozen different greens with half a dozen techniques and four dozen layers to get a result I could live with. But an easy way to pull off an "electric green" is this:
1) Rotting(Dead) Flesh
2) watered down Dark Green Ink (Dark Angels green works too, just mix in a little gloss varnish)
3) highlight/drybrush with a light green (i used Escorpena Green).
This particular model took me two days to paint. I highly encourage you practice on gaunts or genestealers before you commit paint to the bigger/more expensive models. I hope this helps! {^_^}
