Description After a few too many released pony with unneeded bodygroups, I figured it was high time the issue was addressed.

Sweetsong was originally going to use the Fluttershy base, but for the sake of the tutorial, I went with template 4.

I AM TRYING TO ADD BODYGROUPS TO A HUMAN MODEL BUT WHEN I LOA HIM IN SFM THE BODYGROUPSS ARE ROTATED. AND I DON'T EVEN HAVE TO TURN THEM ON/OFF BECAUSE THERE'S ANOTHER ISSUE, THERE ALREADY SHOWING WHEN I LOOK AT THE MODEL NORMALLY.....AND THERE GOING THROUGH IT LIKE AS IF A STAKE IS PIERCED THROUGH HIS STOMACH OR WERE EVER IT STICKS OUT AT......I DON'T ROTATE THEM WHEN I EDIT THEM TOGETHER....THE STUFF I WANNA ADD IS CLOTHS/GLASSES/HATE SN STUFF I'VE ONLY DONE IT WITH CLOTHS AND THEY INCLUDE THE SHOES WITH EM THEY R ROTATED N GO THOUGHT THE MODEL WEIRDLY CAN SOMEONE HELP ME FIX THIS? I USE 3DS MAX TO TRY N CREATE THE GROUPS WITH WALL WORM MODELS TOOLS IF SOMEONE COULD TELL ME WHAT TO DO TO FIX THIS ISSUE PLEASE TELL ME.

I HAVE EYE ISSUE SSO I TYPE LIKE THIS TO READ BETTER.


AND I THOUGHT I DID... BUT I THINK I REALIZE SOMETHING ELSE....IN 3DS MAX WHEN I IMPORT THE MAIN MODE I ADD THEM TO HIS BONES ARE LAYING DOWN......AND I TRIED TO RIG THE ONE I USED FOR THE LAST TEST TO THE "SPINE" BONE THINKING IT WOULD WORK. I DON'T KNOW IF IT DID BECAUSE LIKE I SAID IT LOOKED MESSED UP IN SFM AND I JUST FOUND OUT RECENTLY ABOUT THE BONES LAYING DOWN IN MAX...THE WIRE FRAME/MESH IS SITTING UP FINE BUT FOR SOME REASON THE BONES R NOT..DO U KNOW HOW TO FIX IT? IS THAT MY PROBLEM?

ok first off, you don't load all up the bodygroups in3ds max. they're suppose to be separate files. I'd have to actually take a look at your model's files to figure out how to fix the problem exactly.

what do you do if you want to add accessories or replace bodygroups?

that's a different tutorial, but basically what you do is if you want to add a new bodygroup for an accessory, all you have to do is simply add it in to the qc before you compile.

What it means is that official support For Garry's mod 9 was stopped once the switch to Garrys mod 10 (now at version 13) happened.

Now sine Gmod 9 was made for an older branch of the source engine it's likely that it doesn't even support the bodygroup function at all. you may want to pay the $10 to upgrade to the full gmod and get access to tons of addons plus regular updates and support for models from Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, alien Swarm, and possibly DoTA 2

for that, you need to modify the smds for the phys model and the rig to remove the wings for the template you plan on using. This was something that oogaboogaman failed to see. I'll be covering this in a later tutorial, and maybe put a pack together of wingless smds for earth and unicorn ponies.

But don't hold me to that resource pack.

I meant the source SDK model viewer.

hmmm, what's the resolution of the body texture? The reason I ask is sometimes people make that texture too big when all it is is just mostly solid color.

well I tend to use GUI Studio compiler, but you may want to find a tutorial.

It works with the Ep1 engine too. though if you own any source mutiplayer game, that counts as Orange box for the GUI interface.

dude, those are games from teh Orange box. You meet the requirements.

Also, Gui Studio compiler is just an easier to use interface for regular Studio compiler. and to get Regular Studio compiler, just download the source SDK

You don't need any half life game. With portal 1 and TF2, you can get the source SDK + the configurations for both games. you just won't have the config for the Half Life games, that's all.

Problem: When I extracted the files, and opened the mdldecompiler qc (the only qc in the folder) it doesn't show anything about bodygroups. What did I do wrong D:

well first off, the qc used is from the source file pack here: [link]
Also, I didn't decomplie the template pony to get the source files, they're included in the pack.
Just download the pack from one of the 2 links under "V3.1 Source:"

the pack will have the ponies divided up into their own folders complete with a qc file in each.
