So I thought that instead of repeatedly calling you faggots on my journal I'd draw something once in a while.HALTEN SIE NOTICE CAPS LOCK
In the comments down there I pasted some links to images trying to clarify the size of Armored Cores. All the links have since died, but to save everyone the confusion here's a clear and simple reference on how big the mechs are. In case anyone ends up tripping over this anymore.

ACs are small and agile. If you guys want the big boys, fire up MechWarrior (preferably Living Legends, so I can blow you up).

The size is weird in AC4 and AC4A. At kitasaki junction, my ac takes up three lanes. And it's only a mid weight biped.

I think I favorited this long before I played Armored Core 4...now I realize even more how beautiful it is.
Now may I ask:
Are those two NEXTs your own creations/customizations or actual schematics?

All custom. The announcement of cooperative mode in Armored Core 4 Answer got me drawing this, the one on the right is my jack-of-all-trades, Mercury Wrath, and the other one a friend's mech, Heimdall.

Beautiful picture. I wish Armored Core would have a better story. Like Ace Combat or some thing. FA and 4 had good stories. But it lacked for some reason

Well, the storylines of Ace Combat have been coming down sharply. With AC0's "We'll nuke the world better" and AC6's I DON'T KNOW A WHOLE LOT ABOUT WAR.
People on the internet keep insisting AC3 had an awesome story, but I really doubt that's just elitist hipsters talking, but I also cannot contradict them what with the PAL-version released with the story *cut out*.
But yea, the storylines in Armored Core are shamefully lacking.

The angles are out and the perspectives aren't there, the mood and environment aren't intense and more towards a romantic sunset evening. What is it you're trying to portray here? AC lovers evening out?
Behemoth? That small? Don't make me laugh... You should blow up that flying thingy to create awesomeness or things will end up boring.
Do not be pleased with minor results, always strive for perfection, keep it up

GloomFlowerArt In reply to vforvengeance [2008-09-05 15:21:25 +0000 UTC]
I was going for a less intense mood with the perpective, the kind of eerie calm. Put the airship to a lower perspective to make it seem less out of place and not immediately threatening, as opposed to viewing it from below blocking out the sun and whatever.
I didn't get the mood right, but apparently a bit closer to target than what you were expecting, it was never meant to be bearing down the viewer's throat.
As for the title, it's a musical reference, but still I gotta ask, how big are airships supposed to be..?
I ended up grinding my teeth because that thing turned out so damned big, it's the size of a small passenger jet and doesn't appear to be meant for rear echelon support duty either. If something that size would fly up anywhere closer to the enemy than an AWACS it could as well be a zeppelin for the good it would do. A thing that big couldn't even move fast enough to have its burning wreckage fall on the ground forces.
But hey, a comment with more content than just "wow cool", rarity in DevTart.

vforvengeance In reply to GloomFlowerArt [2008-09-06 06:33:40 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it's closer to target than what I expected-
A romantic evening out by the lake playing with a remote-controlled airship.
Since you can picture such an awesome imagination inside your head, but still you can't picture it right on paper and CG, it's clear to me that your sense of perspective aren't good enough to get the angles right and your colour senses aren't good enough to get the mood right. So that means more grueling hours of practices until you got it right.

ARMOR CORES *drools*
I've always loved the mecha design of cores, and the well done gameplay of the games. Other than being hit with a bicycle, of course.

Great lighting and composition. Pretty epic.
Good return to posting mecha. >:]
The car dosen't fit so well with the streamlined and other-worldy looking mecha and flying thing. I think the image would work better without the car. That might just be me though.
I hate drawing cars.

The cores seem much smaller than they do in game (the can crush cars with bare feet.)
Other than that, it's beautiful. Instant fav.

Errrmmm... no, sorry. But a car is no bigger than a Midweight's foot. That picture is not of the pilot right next to their AC, but the AC is a tad further back in the back ground.
Infact, there is a cutscene in either Last Raven or Nexus showing a Raven emerging from their AC's cockpit. You can see them compared to the head. The head is quite large compared.
The way you seem to be suggesting it, is that an AC is more of a powered suit, and not a giant robot.
Still, if I ignore the car, the picture is amazing.

GloomFlowerArt In reply to KillerWhut [2008-01-06 23:44:57 +0000 UTC]
We're actually both too far on opposite sides of the size scale here. The first thing to do here is to completely ignore the scales seen in the game itself, because they're utterly inchoherent. On one mission you're stepping on cars and on the next get run over by a bicycle. Lazy level design is an ugly thing.
But, I grabbed shots of the sequence you mentioned. As it shows, Armored Cores are big, but your 500-meter giants with their own gravitational pull.

Hang on... a bicycle? O.o
Yeah, that's a fair assessment to make given the evidence, and thanks for finding the shots I mentioned.
Didn't say they were 500 metres high, but still.

Then again I could always dodge behind artistic lisence.
Armored Cores are the sweetest mechs around, but there's still a few pointers they could take from Heavy Gears.

GloomFlowerArt In reply to Pendragon9 [2008-01-11 22:40:05 +0000 UTC]
Not really, the size reference is clearly visible in AC4 intro movie as the mech descents the side of an aparment building.

Well, since humans are rarely seen, it's hard to tell.
They certainly aren't towering skyscrapers, but they are higher than 4 humans stacked ontop of eachother.

What's with you and giant mechs..? I mean, with the accelerations the 'Cores endure in AC4 the strain would completely tear off their limbs if they were any heavier.
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
Pendragon9 In reply to GloomFlowerArt [2008-01-12 00:19:06 +0000 UTC]
well, don't forget how durable these mechs are. They can take a grenade blast, their arms aren't coming off anytime soon.
Also, when it comes to me and Armored Core, I've done ALOT of research on how big they are. They are not very small. At the very least they are 25-30 feet hight.
The ACs in those pictures are crouching, so they look shorter.
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
GloomFlowerArt In reply to Pendragon9 [2008-01-12 00:42:42 +0000 UTC]
Just refer to what I bellowed about with Killerwhut earlier, it doesn't take any research, you just need to watch one goddamn intro movie. The scales in the missions are off and never stay constant. Lazy level design, simple as that.
Also, it doesn't matter if they're crouching or not, you know what the mech looks like and if it repositions its' center of gravity a bit it doesn't change the actual size.
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
Pendragon9 In reply to GloomFlowerArt [2008-01-12 01:34:16 +0000 UTC]
I guess that's reasonable enough.
But there is no way I'm piloting a midget mech.

KillerWhut In reply to GloomFlowerArt [2008-01-07 19:10:26 +0000 UTC]
Heavy Gears are very cool as well, but Cores still remain my all time favourite.
And I think I know what you mean by a bicycle. It's a highly mobile MT that travels around on two wheels. At least I think that's what you mean. If it has a rapid energy attack, then yeah, I think it is.
