Description
It's crunch time. I was up all night making a retarded poster for my Digital Imaging class tonight, and I only have three hours to throw together a paper for the same class (this is the final class, by the way). Then, I get to be up all night tonight finishing my self-portrait (and any other arts I can) for my final portfolio review tomorrow...so yeah...hell. No time to be clever...but comments are, as always appreciated (especially because dA has been so dead this past week).Anyway...hope to hear from you.
Onix is a pokΓ©mon, and pokΓ©mon are property of Nintendo and Gamefreak...and I thank them for allowing me to draw their characters.

Transcription for the Hard of Seeing
==============================
(from top to bottom, left to right)
"Onix have developed a special, remarkably flexible tissue under the thick carapce on their backs. Because of the stiffness of their armor, the flexible layer enables the plates to shift to accomodate onix twisting and turning its body."
"While the minerals onix swallow while tunneling keep their armors strong, they still rely mostly on meat for energy."
"Note: Onix seem to have a sort of internal 'compass' that let's them know how far underground they are."
"As onix age, all of their tunneling slowly smooths out their armor, hardening it. It also gives the carapace a rather distinctive glossy black look."
"As onix grow and develop, their bodies must shed their out layers. This keeps their outmost layer clean, as well as enabling them to continue growing and developing."
"At and average length of 28'10", onix are some of the longest landborn creatures around. Despite their size, onix are comparatively light, weighing less than a quarter of a ton [on average]. They are, however, very strong."

Oof...I don't know what to tell you about the size-problem...that seems to be a dA issue.
Either way, thank you! I hope you figure out the viewing issue.

I think that seems a little short for 28' 10". Still very well made though. Very good bio.

Mmm...I don't know...I did a lot of research. I mean, that man's about 6' tall...and the way I measure it, the onix to scale's about 4 1/2 that-guys long (6 Γ 4.5 = 27) which is pretty close...and school buses are anywhere up to about 45 feet long (though that one only looks to be about 35 ft)...
Whatever the case, I'm glad you like it!

I read somewhere that onix body is held together by electromagnetic forces in each of the special rocks. I think it was Pokemon Special. Sweet art by the way! I like it anyway!

Wow, how many of these did I actually comment on?
Again, great way of explaining the pokemon. I liked the diagram of its internal organs.
This onix is also a little short. That's probably sort of picky, but it was something I noticed.
I bet in real life, nobody would be able to get past Brock.

It's true...onix and steelix were boss and miniboss in a d20 campaign I just ran, and even though, as pokΓ©mon go, they're statistically mediochre, I pretty much had to jack them up because there's no reason a 30 foot long snake with a shell wouldn't be absolutely beastly.

I think onix gets overlooked a lot. Most people these days barely remember the first generation outside pikachu, jigglypuff, and the squirtle, bulbasaur, and charmander lines (interestingly enough...these are the pokΓ©mon that appear as playable characters in brawl. Coincidence?)
Anyway, I'm glad you like it.

I don't think it is with jiggly, but charizard is probably remembered for being such a popular card. It was the best known next to pikachu for a long time, even today.

Cool. You've managed to make a seemingly simple pokemon somewhat more complicated... and I would love a smooth, shiny, black onix. That would be cool.

Another top-notch job right here. This really puts it into perspective how you can turn Pokemon, these odd anime-like monsters, into real life creatures. Kudos, once again.
The title design is cool, btw. And I enjoyed the tidbits. Can it actually rotate its segments though? And I didn't notice a clear indication of how the body gets rock hard. I figure it just bubbles to the surface of their skin.
And is that my RP character next to the Onix and the bus?

Maaaaaaaaaybe...
Yes...that was my intent. Nice catch. Speaking of which...we still need to talk details! I haven't even gotten to the good stuff involving you yet!
It can't swivel them indefinitely...obviously they have a certain amount of flexibility, but they do have a spine to keep intact.
As far as the shell goes, I figure it works a lot like a turtle...they're born with a softer back, and as they grow, it hardens. Carapace, remember? And of course, it is fortified with minerals day in and day out as onix tunnels, so...yeah.

If you mean the eyes, I can see that, but I was paying more attention to the details and the factiods myself. The shed skin was pretty cool, and I like the fact that not everyone has forgotten about older Onix getting black over time. Oh, and the organ chart was cool.

GnooroopoftheGerudo In reply to SuperMarthAndRoy64DS [2008-05-06 02:18:54 +0000 UTC]
Oh...no...the eyes actually are only the black parts in the middle...if you look at most non-venomous snakes (look up Snakes on Wiki and find the scale diagram), most of em have rather large white areas around their pupils...that's what those are...

You don't need to tell me twice...that would be a dream come true...
If only it were that easy.
At least someday I may be able to trick Nintendo into letting my publish an artbook or something...(which is why I'm going to start doing more and more 1st gen pokΓ©mon)...but even that will take me a while to get presentable.
