Description
Original title, eh?This was taken about a month ago. We had a lightning storm come through in the middle of one of our 110 degree spells. It was a nice reprieve from the heat. Anyway, I just got my new camera *huggles camera* so I went out and laid in the pasture for an hour taking pictures. I actually only caught 4 pictures (of 93) with lightning in it; even with a long exposure it would always flash right after the pictures was taken and was being saved. Go figure.
Taken at about 9 pm in Eastern Washington with a Canon Powershot A520. Only modifications in photoshop was the border and the sig.

Great shot
I like the way the lightning looks like a needle going through the clouds

The biggest thing on the news here a few days ago was about wearing ipods when it rains and how it can kill you by sending the electric shock through your earphones into your brain! I dunno where that comment came from but yeah lol~! Want useless knowledge come to me.

Just make sure the windows are closed and you're not wearing the earphones!

sad! Can you adjust the shutter speed at all, or have a 'bulb' setting? If not, you'll probably end up taking 300 pictures trying to get one lightning bolt. I think I took 130 pictures during this storm since the longest exposure I could get was 16 seconds (which always ends .0003 seconds before the next lightning strike).

No, i cant, my digi is limited with the features. No long or short exposure and no way to change the shutter speed haha. So im going to have to do what you said, sit there and take hundreds of pics probably. Which isn't a problem, I was able to catch some lightning bolts on my cell phone doing that, but they didnt turn out right, it was just a bright spot. Plus when I did it w/ the cell..there was a dark bar cuz of the sudden change in brightness haha.

Yes, they can have some bad side-effects for computers, but they're pretty damn sweet anyway

We don't get it too often around here (middle of the desert so rain is little and far between) so it's great when it does come

it depends on the color of the clouds, I think, and the land around it. Ours is usually pretty purple in our neck of hte woods.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1
GoaliGrlTilDeath In reply to Drako08 [2006-09-18 02:29:24 +0000 UTC]
not particularly hard... although I did take like 190 shots that night and my timing was just off enough that the lightning ALWAYS flashed right after my camera was finished exposing, so I only got 3 actual lightning shots that night. But it wasn't too hard to lay in a field and push a button on a camera ;D

lucky. We have one or two decent storms in the spring but this year we had one in late august (weird, but so has the rest of the weather).
