I really get sick of hearing people say he stole the egg. I guess you'd rather let the teenage dragons smash the egg, which is what would likely have happened.

Now now... Spike found the egg on the ground after the other dragons destroyed the nest and chased the Pheonixes away. He was an unwitting accomplice to all that, sure, but he didn't steal PeeWee's egg.
