My first stamp. Because sometimes art school doesn't happen.( and other times art class can't be tolerated. X3 )

Wow, this got a lot of faves/views! Now That I look back on it, it's an ugly stamp. xD I think there are prettier self taught stamps out there now. I should really update this thing. =O

I'd like to attend some art school to be taught how to draw perspective, background, shade and stuff like that. But I'm lacking time for it.

The past three years of high school, I took an art class. Two out of three years, I hated art class. Mainly because I hate the teacher from Sophomore and Junior year. Always complaining about my damn artwork.

I prefer tutorial books like the ones by Andrew Loomis to actual classes. Every art student I've ever talked to absolutely hated art school and said they almost quit drawing because of it.

Been drawing for ages, and I'm pretty much self-taught as well. Though I do look at how-to-draw books to get animal anatomy right and cartoon books for certain techniques, I still haven't taken an art class. :3

Lots of my friends come to me and say "How did you learn?" or "teach me!" and I say " By practicing" and they go off expecting me to say something grand, or "I dunno how, just practice".

I'm so glad there are other people who go through the same thing as me. It's kind of frustrating getting people coming up to you, saying "How do you do that? Teach me!" as if they're expecting some kind of magic answer.
It's a bit gratifying to tell them how long it took me to lean to do it, actually. I like letting them know the dedication it takes, because so many people just call it "innate talent," and it really downplays the amount of work we put in as artists.

Too true! It also puts me off when they say 'innate talent' too. I got very insulted when a old friend said that art is boring.

"Art Courses" right now around where I live, probably not formal classes anyways, are based on taking a sketchbook and being teached to draw still things with strict guidelines at best, but most of them are "how to draw manga" stuff. Don't get me wrong, for my style is mostly times somewhat chibi, but it gets on my nerves when people think that by knowing how to trace Naruto they know all the great knowledges of Art. I dunno about graphic design classes tho, they seem interesting however.
I have never taken any art class, and I'm not too sure I'll anyways, probably before College, surely Graphic Design and Flash for the sake of knowing how to use programs, but that's beside the point I guess

I get asked that frequently... it's like you can't be a self-taught artist without being a tracer or some shit.
Art can come naturally sometimes, people. I never took an art class, and I never have based my art on anime or crap-holes. >_<;

Exactly, I only had one art class, but I am fairly good at drawing. I am always asked "How many classes have you taken to learn to do that?" It's a bit annoying.

Well, I think everybody's has learned from somebody or something. Because doing art just because someone "self taught" itself cannot do actual art... or doesn't even know what really is. My point is that everybody who is an artist has to be "bassed off". So, in my opinion, that isn't really "self taugh".
Or else because of those "" sings you have puten there maybe you do mean what I had said (or something like that). If you do, then I had too. Although, going to classes is great to learn new methods of drawing, painting, animating, etc. And for people that can't really draw and want to do it, then they go. Of course, wasting too much money for it isn't right.

I love this stamp.
And hot damn, person can't make a stamp without starting controversy. My only request is could it mayhaps come in other colors. Really there isn't anything wrong with pink, I'm just more of the drab variety and far end of the rainbow.

It's not like math, english, history. gosh.
Art is a form of expression, you can't teach that.
you can learn techniques, true. but you can't
learn how to create art. this stamp is very arogant
and honestly I feel it's just for people to carry a sense
of pride with them. But there is no way to teach it.

Yeah, it's about pride. People who talk about their OMGSHINY art schools carry pride, too. I will probably never make it past community college, but art is my passion and hopefully it will be what I do for a living. Will I ever see an art school? No. I'll probably NEVER see an art school. Maybe just pictures of one. Can we not be proud that we've learned what we have without having to pay $9000/semester?

I took an art class and in fact there were students who LEARNED to draw through the school and not on their own. It amazed even them because they were the type that didn't want to draw, they preferred other aspects of the field.

It's fine that you disagree. It's a stamp. Stamps are for showing off things about yourself. They are for stroking egos. Not to be confused with eggos.
I'm not saying art school isn't a good idea. If you can get into an art school, go for it. It doesn't happen for everyone. I got dreams that probably won't be fulfilled without it. Doesn't matter.
Point is, don't be hatin'. Jesus loves us all and our stamps/egos. If you don't like the stamp, dun use it!
