The song of Deborah elaborates and talks about a rainstorm and mud being what brought the frightening chariots down. So here is his cavalry falling apart by an overflowing river with Mt Tabor in the background where the Israelites are descending upon their stuck situation. I wanted to juxtapose dark mud with gray skies and show not just the physicality of their situation, but the despair and surrender of the moment. It needs to be why Sisera would bail out and just run away. I wanted his expression to show exasperation like he's on his last nerve about the whole thing.
