Description - - - -

request for Kiba, of her character Necropolis.

I think I did well with the recoloring/markings and I'm actually pretty proud of that tail...

Now I need to go finish my other request so I can get the personal work in my head out before I lose it. O:

Yes, I do use photoshop, but not CS4 :/ Uhm, for the recoloring, basically you desaturate your horse (not entirely though) and then duplicate that layer. On the new layer, you can darken it a bit, using levels or the burn/dodge tool, however you prefer and use either the multiply layer mask or soft light, depending on how dark you want it. After you set it to whichever you want, you can play with the opacity in order to preserve some of the detail from the first layer. You basically just have to keep playing with layer settings and opacity until you get the look that you want

As for the markings, I either select the entire shape of the horse (Hold ctrl and then click on the horse's layer so that the outside of the horse has the dotted line around it) and then make a new layer, and paint on it using the wet media type brushes. These create the most realistic edges for the markings. I recommend either blurring or gently smudging the edges a bit, so they don't look really sharp. You want them to fade into the base color Once you have the marking(s) looking the SHAPE you want, then you duplicate their layer. Set the original layer to "Lighten" on about 15-20% and the copy layer to "Screen" on about 40-60%. You'll have to play with the percentages a bit to get the detail from beneath the markings to stand through, but those are the basic settings. After you have them basically how you want, you can go and create a new layer and flesh out the details in the markings using a small brush on a medium opacity. I hope that helps a bit! Let me know if you need anything clarified There's also many good tutorials out there with step by step processes that could help you out <3
