Description *Note: Not Vector Art. See media description*

Seventh of a 12 piece series that will become the 2005 Retro Girl Calendar. Don't worry, I'll come back to May soon. This is my personal favorite so far, I'm just very happy how the whole composition flows together. Vacation is the theme for June. Of all the vacations I've been on, I have to say Paris was my favorite. I would go back in a heartbeat to any of the places I've been, but especially Paris. There is just an absolutely rich cultural herritage everywhere around you, even the room you're staying in (we stayed in Montmartre, just down a side street from the Moulin Rouge). I also consider this piece a small homage to the incredible artist and illustrator Mary Blair. When I finished, I stood back from it and I could just feel her influence in in my color choices. If you don't know who she is, they just recently publinshed a wonderful compilation of her work, definately worth checking out.

This piece is dedicated to and , the wonderful people who watch me who have their birthdays in the month of June. It also happens to be my birthmonth, as well

Medium: Original sketch drawn over in Photoshop with the pen tool, not vectors since the lines and shapes rasterize. It is similar process, but by devart definitions, anything that rasterizes is not vector art. Details added with brush tool.

Ah, Paris... I'm itching to go back as well.

I love the old Hollywood glamour of this. It's one of my favorite styles, and April is definitely one of my favorites of the calendar series so far! Of course, I think I say that every time... Are you really going to have this finished in time for 2005?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GoblinQueeen In reply to GawainesAngel [2004-12-10 04:21:43 +0000 UTC]

yup, only 4 months still to do which as soon as I'm done with finals, that's 2 days of work if I'm really cranking.

Oh my gosh, I LOVED Montmartre.... wish we'd spent more than just an hour or so there. *sigh* But I love this, it's terrific - she's got that chic attitude going on. And the hat - I'm a sucker for big floppy hats. Bravo!

I think the Eiffel Tower (I sure hope that it's the Eiffel Tower, if I'm wrong, forgive me) makes the composition work That and the river adds a lot of depth to a very minimal piece. Her pose (and clothes) reflects the whole casual traveler look. Very nice ^_^

Yeah, May is drawn, I just haven't been able to sit down and work on it yet. Eventually, I'll have to stop waiting for the mood to strike me and just get to it

Tch. Paris, and here I can't speak a lick of French.

...Well, except for "get out of my face", but that doesn't really count.

This series is going really well! Kudos to you for having the stick-to-it-ness to do the whole year, and thank you for the neat watchers-by-birth-month dealie. It makes the art feel interactive. ^^
