Description *Note: Not Vector Art. See media description*

The latest Retro Girl A mermaid as a Retro Girl? you say? Why yes Thinking retro, I always remember these ceramic mermaids my grandparents have had hanging over their bathtub for as long as I can remember. Granted, they look nothing like this and I have no idea when they are really from, but it's more about the nostalgia

This is another piece I did the sketch for months ago, but with finishing the calendar, it got put on hold.

Medium: Original sketch drawn over in Photoshop with the pen tool, not vectors since the lines and shapes rasterize. It is similar process, but by devart definitions, anything that rasterizes is not vector art. Details added with brush tool.

*Edit* Added some bubbles for balance, thanks for the suggestion, ~ExiledSnake

Excellent job.

Cute and sexy and playful! All at the same time.

I like how you have her curving out, in, and out again. It makes it interesting since she is a mermaid, more swimming like.

I didn't know that if the vector was done in photoshop it was not considered vector. I see lots of folks doing their vectors in photoshop and saying they are vectors... I'd often wondered that myself cause in Illustrator even though you convert the file to rasterized so you can view it on the net, you can always use the illustrator file to resize, change colors, etc without it rasterizing. I guess you cannot do that in Photoshop? I've never used photoshop for vectors actually, I didn't even know you could until I saw folks here on DA using it.

Well, the main thing is you aren't using vectors in Photoshop. It's the same construction technique essentially, but what you create are selection areas essentially that you fill with your chosen color. It looks the same, and people could pass it off as the same, untill it came time to resize.

Why must people put mermaids in the bathroom? That is the last place I want to be reminded of how inadequate I look compared to some drop dead gorgeous mermaid picture who is anorexically thin.

GoblinQueeen In reply to toasterfrog67 [2005-01-22 02:41:08 +0000 UTC]

lol, good point, but these particular mermaids aren't exactly thin, they are that kind of chubby, child-like style that was popular years back.

Oh this one is so wonder ful! You COULD do a whole retro mermaid bathroom set with this and similar characters. It would be awesome! And it would be nostalgic, harkening back to your grandparants' bathroom.

I don't know, I was able to order, but that's only because I'm back at my own computer. Near as I can figure, it's an IE glitch caused when they changed the system a short while back, but it's not all IE because I had a friend try it on her computer and it worked just fine. Definately sent the Prints help desk a help ticket though, because I don't think they believe me that there is a problem. They just sent back a thing saying they couldn't replicate the problem and the new system was better. The more people that let them know they are having trouble, the more I think they will credit the problem. If it comes to it and they can't fix it, I can order it for you and have it sent to your address.

andrewk In reply to GoblinQueeen [2005-01-21 23:45:51 +0000 UTC]

Okay, I'll try to order it without using Internet Explorer! If I run into the problem again, I'll contact them again (they ignored my last complaint), or I'll take your word and have you order it. That very thoughtful of you to suggest that, by the way! Thanks!

WAI! *pointspazz* ANother person who likes starfish as the...erm... 'tops' for mermaids! I end up using them more than seashells.

I love her - hair most of all, how you just gave it so much of a 'woosh' watery feel! Another favie from me, hon.
