Description
Happy New Year everyone!Well, it's been the new year for a little while now, but this is my first piece of the new year, so it still counts...I think...
Just a little tribute to the science fiction of yesteryear. Being the new year, I thought I try something a little bit different. I've always loved the Jules Verne 'Earth to the Moon' and '20,000 Leagues' antiqued kindof idea of science fiction, so I thought I'd try to go in that direction. (Also, I think I've been watching too much Sweeney Todd and reading too much League of Extrodinary Gentlemen
In either case, this is what came out and if I was a better writter, I feel like there's a whole story I could go into with her and a whole little adventuring team, but for right now, I think her name is Adelle (like a-doll, get it? Ok, not that funny, but still...) and while I haven't decided for sure if she is entirely mechanical or only partially, but I am leaning to the partial angle. It's all steam powered and clockwork-like mechanisms, so she needs to stop for minor adjustments every now and again, but she manages. I thought it would be fun if she carried around a little case with tools and other attachments she could use in different situation. Just pop off a hand and attach a wrench or a drill or knife, whatever the situation calls for.
And no, I didn't stay entirely acurate with the clothing again, the hat is really more civil war and the bodice was inspired off of a photo I have in a book of the Princess of Wales in 1874, but I thought it worked right for the theme.
At any rate, I've prattled on a lot, really just started this as a single illustration, but we'll see if I do anything else with it.
Media: line art-brown Colerase on dura-lene, painting done in Photoshop and Painter, texture is scanned papyrus paper.
Sorry again for the larger watermark, but as some of you know, I've been having trouble with people taking and using for auction and other such things without permission, so just a nescessary evil.

I'll definately consider that. I have a couple of other writer friends that may have some thoughts, and I may still give it a go myself, but there's a good chance I may 'shop' around dev so to speak

At first my computer screen only showed her from the shoulders up, so when I scrolled down I got a little surprise at seeing her various mechanations. After that it was fun to look around at all the details, and think about how this interesting character worked. Really great job!

Nicely done, as always! An adorable name, and the mechanical details are fantastic. Compositionally it works wonderfully, especially using the smoke to lead the eye from one pipe to another. A must-fave!

Ooo, I looove the background's style and the overall concept is fabulous. And who's to say that people back in the day didn't mix trends like we do now? Adelle could've really liked that hat and just kept wearing it for ten years.

good point! Hmm, maybe there's a whole story about where she got the hat...

Woo I love this idea. The detail is neat and it's so fun to look at this. I can just see how others would react around her.
*pops off hand* What? You WANT my foot to just fall off?

lol, yeah, I already have an idea of one of the other characters she would interact with and how they would bounce off each other

Woo! Hope you decide to draw them together. I love steam punk-y things. *looks at her very crappy drawing of her steam punk cowboy, scoots it away*
