I'm glad I featured Toad in the opening chapter -- Little Guy's so much fun to draw.

Interestingly enough, the webcomic is my first serious attempt at drawing Mario characters, so it's the first real look I've had at their proportions. Mario and Luigi themselves are three heads tall (Luigi has a longer head), Toad is only two, Princess Peach is four heads tall, and Bowser is strange -- he's only three heads tall normally, but he's also hunched over. He can be four heads or so if he stands upright, depending on the art.

Because of their diminutive proportions, Super Mario Bros. generally requires a cartoony style (and we all know how terrifying photorealism would be ). It's actually well-suited to action, but not as much to sitting-and-talking.
