Description
People go to countries and continents in need, helping the natives by bringing need food, water, nutrients, and medical attention. That's good. Hell, that's more than good. It's amazing that they're doing that. But then there are those who bring their religion with them like it's a designer purse that they need at all times, glued to their side. They'd rather die than be caught without it.I just think that's wrong. if you're going to go help someone in need, then do just that. Don't bring religion into it. Don't try to convert them and have an ulterior motive to your kindness. Go to their country, doing what you intended to do, give them support and help. But, please, don't do it with a plane ticket to another religion tied to the package.

Yeah, I'm Agnostic, and once one of my uncles pulled me out of bed and started spraying me with water in some weird religious ritual. It was weird. ._.

I find the comments from christfags on this to be very funny... The fact they seem to think they have some sort of higher knowledge over you when you have nothing but sound facts seriously amuses me. I look at them comment and then I see you destroy their argument and their own blatant disregard for it. Christfags are worse than rabid-fans. When it comes to their religion apparently opinions so bad that you're not allowed to believe in what you want...
Bravo christfags, Bravo.... Now if you're so sure that I'm not allowed to believe in what I want COME AT ME CHRISTFAGS! TRY AND CONVERT ME, I DARE YA!

i completely agree because the church has actually done this, where they are like "oh look, they have lost contact with everybody else, lets convert them when they are at their most vulnerable!"
it's more of an ugly propaganda machine than a religion these days

So true.. Besides what you said in the description, it's terrible how the reasons people do it are out of selfishness, because they're told it will 'save their souls', and only do it for that reason.

There's nothing wrong with religion teaching people to be kind, but I agree that first and foremost, kindness should mean something to the person who shows it. That and trying to convert someone is not right.

I actually...agree with you on this. But it's not easy for a lot of people, like me and my family to actually GO to the country's that are in need of help. We can just send them food/clothes whatever they need. I stil pray for people though, but also do what I can to help.

I agree! We should help people out of compassion, not because someone else told us to or some book says we have to, or that we'll get some reward if we do or punishment if we don't.

As a Christian, I can say that many people I know (family members, church members, good friends) have gone overseas not to preach to people who live in third world conditions, but to help them out of the goodness of their heart. Even though many times one of the things they do is preach the Gospel, it is not usually focused on that but on helping the people. Yes, they also will teach others their belief if they want to hear it, (which more often than not, they do) and if they don't want to listen, they can feel free to leave, and nothing will be held against them.
Sure, there are fakes who act all high and mighty because they are supposedly a Christian and flaunt around their title like the Taylor-Burton diamond, who condemn others then turn around and do the exact same sins (which is wrong, as Christians are to try their best to act Christ-like, and you can google John 3:17 ), so all I can say is that they should be ignored, as they give lovers of Christ a bad reputation among the world.

You may see religion (and I'm pretty sure you're targeting Christianity above all) as phony, but I certainly don't. Every missionary I know (and I know many) has given nothing but their kindness. The religion is just a side effect. True Christianity isn't about laws; it's about love. It's not about converting; it's about sharing how God's love has made life better. My denomination never forces anything on people; they acknowledge that God give us a choice: to follow or not to follow.

I'm sorry, but I can't do that. The only thing I can do is live the way the Bible tells me to live, be unashamed of my Christianity, and let other people decide whether they want what I have. If they're solid in their choice, then I won't try to change them, but if they're searching, then by thunder, I'll point them to the cross.

It's written by man but it has been written by men that God chosen to write the His Word.
Now when we read the Holy Bible we should know what is His true words by our heart.
Murdering is bad. Okay.
Giving is good. Okay. There you go.
And-We don't help others to save us from hell. (Believing in Jesus is really the key to Heaven because in the Holy Bible, Jesus says, "No one gets to the Holy Father, without going through me." )
God said doing a good deed won't help us from the depths of hell, but Christians do it because we want to be like Jesus Christ-which is perfect(or as close as we can get)-and because God, our Holy Father, hates sin. And out of respect and love for my and our Holy Father we do these good things. Cause not only does it brighten our hearts but it puts a smile on our Holy Father who we love.
We help them because we love them. Jesus loves them. God loves them.
We love them. And we want to help and spread the good news about Jesus Christ!
And- Christianity ain't a religion what so ever. It's a relationship. As a Christian I tell people that, "Hey! Jesus is my savior! He's amazing. Come follow him!" because I want them to have a close relationship with Him!
Christianity is introducing a friend. My friend is Jesus Christ.
Jesus wants to be everyone's friend too!

You have the wrong idea. While it's true, there are false Christians who do these things for the wrong motives, but the rest of us do it for a purpose. Our first and foremost duty to Christ is to make disciples of all nations. So we must go out into the world and do so. But many Christians have a love for those who are in need. We know that they don't only need physical help but they need spiritual help. That's why we go over there to spread the Gospel. We true Christians don't do it because we feel like we have to do it to be saved. We do it because we love. It's not love to help those people and let them go to Hell. So we preach the message that Jesus Christ lived a perfect and sinless life and that He is the son of God and fully human as well. And we tell them that He died for our sins and on the third day He rose again and now sits at the right hand of God. So that anyone who repents of their sins and believes in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, they may be saved. That is much better than anything else in this world.

How do you know it's the truth? You don't. You're just messing with their lives. Let them live content with their own religion in which they believe in and think to be right, just as you do. You wouldn't want someone coming and preaching to you about how your religion was wrong and how you have to repent and change your ways and become a part of a different religion, now do you?

To be honest, that's just part of living in a multi-cultural society and world. There's open discourse and change, and there's nothing wrong with that. I have people tell me that I'm wrong because I of what I believe and that I should convert to their religion or their way of thinking, and they do it because they care about me as a person. For them, it is another form of kindness, and I feel honored that they care.
You would have a point if missionaries wouldn't share their supplies or shunned those that don't convert, but they give regardless of the results. Also, when they go to the countries that are in need, they tend to stay months and years at a time. They will often be without modern conveniences (air conditioning, clean running water, electricity), become a part of a community and culture that is completely foreign to them, and raise their children there. That is an act of complete selflessness in and of itself and I can't describe it in any other way than kind.

I don't think it should matter whether it's for religion or not as long as the positive deed gets done. What's the point of attacking other people's beliefs? Personally I don't believe in trying to convert anyone but I also believe that when religion is followed rightfully--and not with extremism--it just serves as a way to encourage people to do right by one another. The reasons are irrelevant.

Oh man, thanks for making this. When I was a misguided little kid, I gladly gave my little allowance money to help missionaries, but they never tell you the whole story about what happens to those people after religions are planted there. Now I get so irritated every time I get some random letter asking me to support a group going to China or Africa to spread a religion. They go over there to a culture that they don't understand and try to change what they think is evil, dirty and immoral. Some people truly mean well, but the core of the mission is not about love from the heart. If it were, they would give more though to how it will effect the family and tribal belief systems...how families will be torn apart, people killed for traditions followed, more unnecessary wars, etc. It is very, very wrong to go with such ulterior motives. A human being will eat dirt just to survive starvation. Giving into a religion is an even easier trade when food and water is involved. Giving food and water will soothe them for a short time, but the damage done by such imposing religions will last a long time.
I could talk about celebrities doing charities for attention, but I can't see where that has gone quite so wrong(I'm sure it could if done incorrectly). It's not like families will be torn up over whether to buy a Gucci purse or pop star CD.
