Description
This map shows the political situation in 840 of Akrenvar (at this time of history it is not called Middle Hemisphere), which is located to all the lands east of the black mountains of the Kyun. Also, it is shown the east part of the continent of Visdenvar (all the lands west of the black mountains of the Kyun), and most of the continent of Irvia (at the South-East corner of the map), and the islands of Kynreland.
Context
Is the year 840, four hundred years has passed since the demise of the Great empire of Olonor, at this point of history, the continent of Akrenvar has almost been completely consolidated in a new system: Feudalism, replacing the imperial ways. Now the realms have left the former chaos, and a relatively stability has been stablished. The kings had lost their former power to their counts and dukes for them being not capable to control their lands with a centralized state. Except for those with a might and spirit powerful enough to earn the throne where they sit.
Former Olonor.
In the southern regions of the continent, former territories of Olonor are now controlled by various kingdoms and duchies founded by peoples which invaded the old empire in its last years. The three most prominent of them all are: The Kingdom of Fersaint, ruled by Adalbert VI, the Kingdom of Norles, ruled by Lothar VII, and the Kingdom of the Ændar, ruled by Alfred IV. Fersaint and Norles once were united under the Flouranne dynasty (407 – 752) as Kings of the Vontonians, but after the death of its last ruler without having any clear successor, it was decided that the realm shall be divided between its two best generals both of them marring one of the last king’s sisters. Fersaint is richer because controls the fertile and populated Arlise Delta, the river mouth of the Solten, Akrenvar´s greatest river. But Norles had always have a stronger military, for its greater exposure to rival states such as the Abiunnan Emirate of Ergatam, and its non-stopping conflicts to control the Cronorian peninsula. While the kingdom of the Ændar was unified for a second time in 678, after King Edward III of Tenria defeated his own family in the great struggle to become the sole ruler of the region. Then, the successors of King Edward would start warring campaigns of conquest against its neighbours, being able to permit themselves this option by having control of the rich regions of the great western delta.
2. Rakvonia.
In south of the Kingdom of the Ændar, lies the Kingdom of Rakvonia, ruled at this moment by King Frederikh V. The realm suffers from dangers outside and inside its borders; for the kings of Gint claiming their dominance over Rakvonia, the expanding Kingdom of the Ændar, and the tertkonese realms of the south invading the territory of the Kingdom to ride for resources and slaves. And from the inside for the disloyal noble families have created an illegal council to start a war and force the king to create a feudal society and give power to themselves. The destiny Rakvonia towards an age of glory or one of despair only lies in the might and luck of the king, to continue the legacy of the few surviving dægertine nations, having overcome all the difficulties, until now.
3. The Vysodart Empire.
Heading north, it lies one of the most powerful empires in this period is the Great Empire of Wetzlar. It was created in the year 827, when Kaiser Wetzlar I had gained independence from the Arthenan empire, and then, started rapid and successful military conquest which made him finally unify the Valley of Vysodartia. But everyone is afraid of the moment when Wetzlar dies, because everyone knows that the Kaiser´s son abilities are not even close a foot as high as their father´s. The empire greatest danger lies from the inside, and there is nothing to stop it, the empire will collapse after the Kaiser’s death.
4. The Arthenan Empire.
Another empire with difficulties, is the Arthenan Empire, which under the rule of Ioannes III, furiously tries to maintain the territories conquered in the reign of glory of Theophylaktos I (632 – 684). But with his dynasty gone in 771, and now, replaced with a family of unworthy rulers, corrupted politicians, and inept generals, it had lost a vast amount of territories, especially in the west against the new empire of Wetzlar and the Kingdom of Arko. But the empire’s greatest threat and what can possibly break it forever is the new Abiunnan empire formed by the Adbidel dynasty, a new state created after the unification of the Abiunnan tribes under the current reign of Adbidel, formed in 829. Prepared for what would be one of the fastest and most successful conquest in history. But the Arthenan empire is far from disappearing, the direct successor of Olonor still have a great amount of resources and people waiting to be used in the struggle to make the empire survive, and reclaim what is lost until a worthy emperor sits on the throne.
5. The Kyun
After centuries of tribal lifestyle and warfare, the people of the Kyun have almost completely united in several kingdoms in an effort to make a stand against the western khanates, ruled by various nomadic peoples, and the northern states of the Platine Peninsula, masters of the seas and raids. Two of the kingdoms which have been more successful in conquering other ones are: The Kingdom of Arstamoysk ruled by Anton III, and the Kingdom of Vsatov, ruled by Ivan I. Both have flighted side-by-side to defeat all the enemies of the people, but also, both kings know that at some point the unification must continue, and one of them must fall against the other.
6. The Anarqian gulf and the Powers of Visdenvar
Outside Akrenvar, a prominent trading zone have been re-established in the Anarqian gulf after the sixty-years’ war (775 – 835) between the principalities and the Abbedal Empire. After the victory of the principalities, being leaded by Kirn, Attar, and Laenur, a new golden age has started in the gulf, which made the principalities a new centre of the world, by making trade deals with Akrenvarian Realms such as Arstamoysk, The Ændar, Rakvonia, Gunter and Fersaint. They also have deals in their own continent, especially with the Ebesen Empire, but also the far Kingdom of Shen and Even the Abbedal Empire, because for is not possible to survive without the resources the principalities can bring. But there is some regional power which oppose to their dominance: The Afang Empire, under the Rule of Emperor Chatri, with an ambition without limits is planning a full-scale invasion to the gulf, despite the advisors to not doing it. A war is coming, only one faction will be able to see the upcoming years over the ashes of the other one.
Many things have been untold, many heroes in many places, in great tales of great kingdoms, gone, but not forgotten. But I think this is enough to give a basic context for what is happening, especially in the continent of Akrenvar (which I am always be focusing on it). It is possible that at some given time in the future, I could change some of the lore for the sake of logic or inspiration from an outside story (which I don’t like to do it, but I also don’t like illogical things, and there is some very good stories that can replace some lamer ones). Even though, I think I will never know the entire history of this world, I want it to be as complex and as big the real one (with a sort of magic included). And one person cannot know all tales. But I still have some time, I will try to bring more information about this thing. I want to a least one person to see this, beside me.
If you are this point of the text, I hope it haven’t got you bored. If want to, expect some more of this. I will pray to Lukthor, The God-King of the universe, to give some more time.
