Description
I know, I know, I'm just uploading desktop screenshots lately. I promise I have a good excuse this time: I got a new 21" monitor. So, what's on this here desktop? Great question!
Wallpaper• Balloons by ¢celsojunior - I love this guy's work. Almost to an inappropriate level.
Widgets • The Weather - Installed by default with Konfabulator.
• World Clock Pro 2 - I've got to keep up with the times of my fellow Prints QC guys, you know.
• Trash Bin Deluxe - Better than the standard recycle bin any day. This one tells me how many files are in it and how much space they take up.
• iTunes Companion - A must have if you use iTunes and/or love album art. This will automatically look up the album cover and apply it to all tracks on the same album in your library.
• ZipIt! - A new widget, this handy little thing allows for drag-and-drop compression with preset settings of your choice. It can uncompress almost anything you throw at it and compress to a few very useful formats. I never compress files with anything but Zip for the universality of it anyhow. This widget is fast and efficient, not to mention quite pretty. I much prefer it to standard compression software that integrates itself into the right-click menu. I find those to be a pain.
Theme• Royal Inspirat SE by ~StefanKa - Simply put, it's stunning. A cool blue with soft gradients and a smooth shine along the top of each window. My favourite part? There's a Firefox skin and iTunes skin to match. Sweet.
Extras• XPize - If you use XP, you have to install XPize. It updates a ton of default animations and makes the entire Windows interface look more up-to-date. Check out the website for details on the changed. A little example though; you know the crummy little animation you get when copying a folder or file (the little piece of paper flying from one folder to another)? XPize updates it to look pretty: [link] It's easy to install and just as easy to get rid of if you don't like the changes. Give it a try.
• IconPackager Set - Pixelorama Pro by adni18 is pretty stylish. If any of you use IconPackager and know of a set that would look great with this theme, let me know. I like this one but it's not quite right.

His wallpapers look great on any screen but they were definitely made to be viewed on 1600x1200.

Nice choice of background, I like the simple modern look of your desktop
Do Widgets cost at all? I'm guessing you have to download the Yahoo Widget Engine first and then you can download the Widgets?

You got it; Yahoo Widget Engine is free, as are the widgets. It's a lot of fun but I caution anyone with a slower system to limit the number of widgets they run. I usually keep it to 3 or 4 that I view as essential and run the others on an as-needed basis.
Have you taken a look at ¢celsojunior 's gallery? It's full of wicked vector/raster work that really pops. I've even got people at my office using his wallpapers on their computers.

Ah.
Still cold to me though. I prefer 15 - 25 degrees Celsius.

Eight degrees Celsius is a couple degrees below t-shirt weather here. We Canadians are a hearty bunch. Sounds like we'll get snow tonight and I couldn't be happier.

Wow, I love the wallpaper, I will go and check out the artist. Yay for Jack Johnson! You've inspired me to go and get meself a nice looking desktop, haha. THANKS.
How'd you get you're weather displayed? That looks very handy

godofodd In reply to hellsie [2005-09-24 19:25:15 +0000 UTC]
Thanks, glad you like it. The weather thing is a "widget"; you can find a link to the program "Konfabulator" in the description of this deviation. The weather widget comes with the program.

Yes its amazing, oh by the way, the link to it is broken.
Its quite strange seeing this as your wallapaer though, i nevr saw you as much of a vector person.

godofodd In reply to Aeon-Lord [2005-09-16 19:43:50 +0000 UTC]
Oh look, the link is indeed broken. Ah well, I'm not going to put it back in people's Message Centre for that; they can just click on his name and find it themselves!
I'm a huge fan of vector, especially when it comes to stark, bright colour contrast and solid shapes (not a big fan of excessive shading).

when i saw the desktop background, jack johnson's In Between Dreams album cover immediately came to mind. kinda funny how you have jack johnson music on iTunes right then. but yes. i just made that connection and had to make it known to all who come and view this deviation.
wicked nice set-up you've got here.

I hadn't really made the connection myself, despite having seen the In Between Dreams cover moments before taking the screenshot.

Well, I recently purchased a new monitor. 1280x1024 for me. Takes a little getting used to (I can now see JPEG compression a lot more and pixel art actually looks like pixels...)

godofodd In reply to lemontea [2005-11-08 18:23:16 +0000 UTC]
Did you buy an LCD? I went with a new CRT and it's awesome. 21" is so much better than 17".

lemontea In reply to godofodd [2005-11-09 00:16:30 +0000 UTC]
19'' Sony LCD. Somebody had opened the box at the store, found 1 dead pixel, and they marked 100 bucks off the price. So I bought it. It's damn nice. It has a glossy finish, so it actually LOOKS like a glass CRT. Beautiful find.

godofodd In reply to lemontea [2005-11-09 01:36:05 +0000 UTC]
Sweet. I don't know that I've seen an LCD with a glossy finish; I imagine I would like it. The textured appearance of most LCDs is my biggest problem with them.

I'd consider using 1600x1200 on a 19". You don't use a 17" monitor at that resolution, do you?

lemontea In reply to godofodd [2005-09-15 21:40:18 +0000 UTC]
19'', of course. I mean, welcome to 2005. I want to get one of those huge 24'' CRTs (used for 3D design, I assume, but perfect for gaming ) that are priced dirt cheap because of LCDs. There was one in a shop around here for only 500 bucks.

godofodd In reply to lemontea [2005-09-16 05:56:30 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I've had my eye on those types of monitors as well. When I do eventually upgrade to 19", I doubt it will be LCD because of the huge difference in price.
