I doubt it is permanent. Amon uses 1 chackra point, while Aang uses 2. Also if you recheck with the original series, the Yogi tells Aang that the point in the forehead is connected to illusions. I am convinced it will be reversible.

I noticed that too, aang blocks the bending in the heart and mind as the only Amon blocks in the mind .... Aang touches head and heart while amon only touches the forehead ...

this was so sad! Lin is the most bad ass person in the show, even more so than korra if i say so myself, but lin has been around a lot longer too, more practice at being a bad ass. I couldnt stop raging over this, i seriously hope korra finds amon and shoves that mask up his rear end

Why is everyone mad, I mean I love Lin as well, but I freakin' love Amon. He's like the perfect antagonist. Cold, relentless, powerful, able to strike fear into the hearts of millions just by speaking, and that with his mask on!! But then cartoon mechanics like this is meant to bring more people in to watch the show. My guess, and its just a guess, is that if the avatar is able to take the power of bending away, he/she should have the ability to give it back right? So Lin fans don't fret more than likely she will get her powers back, downside, it'll probably be during the last few episodes, sorry.

I think this was the end of the Equalist story arc, though. They could definitely still build on it, but this season was supposed to be able to stand alone, and it failed in that aspect in my book. Either way I'm hopeful the next season will be even better.
