Description
The first wave of imperial assaults usually is marked by mostly infantry. Sometimes there would be supporting vehicles, such as armor or light IFV's, and almost always artillery. But the push usually masks what the rest of the army is doing behind them. Enlisted engineers hide in the rear ranks of the clones, taking shelter in foxholes or ditches, digging to expand their small base of operations and deploying small drones, constructing forward fortifications, or setting up a forward mortar pit.

When the second wave comes, armor starts to appear, more enlisted are thrown in, and the forward positions set up are reinforced while the cloned soldiers keep the pressure and attention on them rather than the enlisted. Forward positions are expanded, frontline intel is given, drones deployed give artillery more accurate fire, etc.

By the time the third wave is launched, everything has been set up to stage a breakthrough. Sometimes it fails, sometimes it doesn't, but the tactic has proven successful enough to continue the tactic.
