Japan is a strong country, even if it's in a bad situation right now I'm sure I won't take to much to recover from this, even so, I pray for the souls of those who die in this devastating disaster

Am I the only one who thinks the whole pray for japan thing is getting out of hand, just a tad? Not trying to sound ungrateful or anything just saying that even without all this attention we'd still get through as we always have.

I agree.
Japan was not the only country affected by this. Not only that but they've dealt with this kinda shit before, they'll get through it.

America has sent in two Aircraft carriers, and military personnel already stationed in Japan have been helping with the relief effort. Great Britain and many other nations have offered further aid and sent rescue forces. Even China offered to help.(though I have my doubts about China's sincerity)
Still I can't even imagine what it would be like to have been there, its a real life nightmare...

I hope you hang it out. Here in my country, hotlines are finally opened, and I'll make call or two. Japan people have solidarity like no other people... I have at least bit of hope from this humanity. Change will come for all of us like sun from East.

I like how non-Japanese citizens are making a bigger to-do over this crisis than Japanese people themselves. They were never planning on giving up. This isn't a test for Japan. This is real life; it's disaster recovery. If you want to help, don't: pray, draw pretty pictures, or make stamps. Those do nothing.
How about: donating money to a charity that will support them?
Slacktivism (noun) - the idea of only offering "moral support" and ineffectual prayers to give the illusion of being helpful. Often accompanied by making and setting fanciful imagery. (ex: cartoon character avatars on Facebook that *somehow* helped against child abuse)

well, donating money wont give you favs or a daily deviation...
I really think we dont need more of "pray for Japan" art. turn on the TV and you will be aware of their situation

A lot of those people DO donate as well. And the art raises awareness and might encourage others to donate.
Don't be so cynical.

This one doesn't even hint at the idea of helpful donations. With the amount of useless "pray for Japan" art I see spamming the front page, I think I can afford to be a bit jaded. Those who donate can say they support Japan, since, you know.. they actually DO support Japan. Those who are just going "WOO GO JAPAN" are not being helpful.

I think it is heartwarming to see these people taking time to make art. it's not spam, it's what people are doing. This is an art site, and popular stuff gets on the front page. This art is popular.

BarrelsBottom In reply to dragon-sigma [2011-03-17 00:56:24 +0000 UTC]
Speaking of spam... I should stop replying in the comments section soon, since that'll get annoying. PM me if you want to continue the conversation. Or leave it be, your choice.
The problem with it I have is that the vast majority of the "support Japan" art is not of high enough quality to get onto the front page by itself. It requires an emotional push. So, it's really not the most recent top-notch stuff; it's just the current trend. To restate, I'm mostly annoyed at how people pretend that their art is somehow helping the people of Japan. Unless there are donations, or less likely, physical efforts to aid Japan, nothing is getting done by their so-called support.
