The elephant condors closest relative is argentavis, which flew from Argentina to the Mea Hua Archipelago, presumably for migration purposes. Mea Huan legend states that the first of the condors were born from a volcano, hence the name, Lua Pele Hānau ‘ia, volcano born. Elephant condors tend to nest in mountains and jungles.
