Description
Titanus Kamaitachi: Japanese mythological weasels.Today we present to you a new creature of the hollow earth, inhabitant of frozen and snowy areas: the Kamaitachi
Gigantic mustelids, even if they look more like felids or Madagascar Fossas, probably an adaptation of them as ambush predators.
They usually hunt in groups of three, a triplet commanded by a female, usually larger than the other two males, who manages all the group's moves via vocal and physical signals.
In the myth the Kamaitachi were yokai able to fly and control the wind, in reality the Kamaitachi are animals that have developed a patagium, a membrane of elastic and resistant skin that connects the forelimbs to the hind ones which allows them to glide and chase the prey as silently as possible.
During the glide they are helped to maneuver the "flight" with a flat tail ending in a tuft of brown colored hair, which can be widened or narrowed at will.
They can also use their tails to strike the snout of prey and temporarily stun them
All three members have thumb and big toe ending in a huge curved claw: a bit like the ancient dromeosaurids or even some of today's birds of prey, albeit in a very reduced way.
We have noticed that the prey are injured several times by the claws of these predators, even if they did not seem to feel enormous pain.
The Kamaitachi play with the victim, a bit like the domestic cat with a mouse or a canary, until it gets tired, unaware of the excessive loss of blood due to wounds.
It is theorized that there is a pain-relieving serum in the sockets of the claws, which is released once the wound is inflicted.
In Japanese mythology, the weasel was seen as a malignant beast, after these discoveries about the Kamaitachi we believe it even more.
