Goldsickle — Bioshock Finite (CONTAINS ENDING SPOILERS)

Description After all the stuff I was able to do back in the first two Bioshock games, it was a little disappointing that a lot was taken out of the gameplay in Bioshock Infinite.

Games nowadays seem to be given high scores and ratings based on it's story, art direction and narrative, which I think goes against the whole point of "video games".

Well, you could possess human or automaton enemies (kinda like the Hypnotize plasmid).

For automatons, the possession is temporary.
Meanwhile, if done on most human enemies, they will commit suicide after the possession wears off.

I wouldn't mind one ending...specially with that story. But they could give the gamer a bit more to 'game' and different storylineways to get to the ending. That was one ending with more than over a hundred ways to get there.

So yeah. A awesome story, art direction and narrative is good in a game, but the game shouldn't get to be less a game because of it...sooo long story short, get your point.

I agree in the month or so leading up to Infinite I replayed 1&2 and felt rather underwhelmed at how stripped back the game seemed to be. Then again, you got so much salt and ammo it was easy enough without stockpiling. Although I did miss having all the guns to hand it meant you could be unprepared for the next siege, which is good and bad. It was frustrating but it brought a sense of urgency to weapon management. Then again the story went to shit as soon they started using tears every other chapter anyway . . .

Lol, so true. The health kit and weapon things irked me. What is this, fucking HALO!?

That being said, despite the crap it gets for being "streamlined", I still thought it was a fun and enjoyable game despite my various nitpicking gripes. They had a story they wanted to tell and it was well done.

Yeah, I was disappointed that they went all Halo on us. I think Jack Ryan could kick Bookers ass due to these limitations.

Hahaha funny.

I get your point but I do think Infinite is a fantastic game - easily the best to be released this year.

I don't know...

Not stocking on health kits, and two guns only added to the challenge of the game in my opinion.

I enjoyed playing it more than BioShock 2, anyway...

i prefer the point mark mode in the xbox mode (i prefer numbers(archievements) instead trophies)

aaaaanyway if all likes the same, all be boring, not?

(i'm not play any bioshock yet, but is interesting how can mantain the drama level, not like Crysys 3 or dead space 3)

I believe story, art direction, and narrative are all huge parts of a game's experience... sure, they're games but above all they're entertainment.

It's just bad when people don't bother to try to mold things the right way for the type of game you're playing... Asura's Wrath is great with all three mentioned above, but there isn't a huge amount of playablity as, say, Mario :U But it works out in the end to be very highly enjoyable. One of the best video game experiences I've ever had.

Then you try to do it in a series like Bioshock and I question wtf is going through the developer's minds.

Goldsickle In reply to AetherealBunny [2013-06-22 12:05:41 +0000 UTC]

I still believe that gameplay has the highest priority, since the novelty of "art" and "story" wears off quick in subsequent playthrough and what keeps you coming back is the pure gameplay.

You can memorize the story but you still need all your wits, patience and reaction when playing a game.
Repeatedly watching a movie over and over can get old but defeating enemies never gets old if the gameplay is done right.

Sometimes, I hate it when story interferes with gameplay, like how your equipment is forcefully changed just so it can fit the cutscenes in MGS4.

AetherealBunny In reply to Goldsickle [2013-06-22 18:46:47 +0000 UTC]

*shrug* That's purely personal preference there then.

Still, can't say I don't like rewatching a movie every now and again o3o;

Nebelstern [2013-06-22 10:40:09 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't say that.
A game needs rules. That's what makes it a fair game.
Game designers make the rules - and they have their reasons they make the rules as they are.
Critizising a game's rules is kinda stupid. After all you don't go and critisize the rules of Base-ball or Basket ball or Monopoly.
It's rules, they are made so the game is balanced, challenging and fun. It's not rocket science.
I mean, sure you can dislike rules in a game. Me for example I don't like the rules in monopoly. I think it's f*cking boring. XD

Goldsickle In reply to Nebelstern [2013-06-22 11:20:47 +0000 UTC]

Whenever you read developer notes about how they make the games, you'll realize that the developers never follow any rules.
They just do whatever is right at the time and many games have a totally different origin before their final release.

Like how Resident Evil was originally supposed to be an RPG remake, Halo was supposed to be a real-time strategy game, one of the Zelda games was supposed to be in first person and so on.

... I just BLARGED out at the last panel/part of the comic strip... Yup Bad END either way.

I do agree, some games are showing more of the video/cut scenes rather than the gameplay of games itself.
