Description
This is a commission I've been working on the past few days. The subject is a US soldier who was killed recently. The commissioner is giving this to his family with condolences.Make sure you thank a soldier next time you see one.
I did this drawing on Bristol Smooth which I haven't used in a while. I forgot how difficult it is to get darker tones on this paper.
8"x10" Strathmore Bristol Smooth
3b, h, 7b pencils
blending stumps and tissue
8-10 hours

awesome! But i don't mean to be nit-picky... he is a Marine not a Soldier. Soldiers are in the Army.
Amazing drawing though. Great job

May I ask how you got his hair to look so soft and real at the same time! What is your technique?

Beautiful work.
Nice that you could help to honor a soldier, I think a lot of people forget the importance of doing so.

As someone who served for many years, I applaud your tribute to this young man.
It is especially difficult to do this type of commission because there is so much emotion tied up in the depiction.
You have done both art and the individual concerned a great service and for this you are to be commended.
Peace

Right on... my little bro is a force recon marine, I've been thinking of doing something similar for mom.. I'm trying to get a cool shot of him in his gear sometime first.
