Description
Whew. I spent all day painting this. I can't believe I actually finished something in one sitting. This hasn't happened in years. I wanted to try something totally different than usual with this one. I've been wanting to do a Western themed work since my trip to Texas earlier this year. So here it is, my 4th oil painting. This work was heavily influenced by and his beautiful sunset paintings. I made up the background for this painting but referenced Karl's work for the colors. Then I used a reference for the cowboy silhouette. I am really happy with how this turned out especially for the short amount of time I spent on it. I think I will be doing a lot more sunset/landscape paintings in the coming months. Hope you like it.The painting was still wet when I took this picture of it. So there is some glare from the wetness. I will probably photograph this again when it dries.

wow you have found the type of paintings i love to paint myself. I have been wanting to do something like this in the same style for ages but have had no time. Keep this style up, i love it! I have referenced photos too just gotta find time. Plus i use acrylic which is really hard because it dries really fast. Not too good with oils just yet.

very nice
i like that you didnt keep it as just a black sillouette even though they are subtle, the color around the edges make alot of difference
the only thing i would say to keep in mind for next time is that the color shift in the sky from orange to blue might be a bit to harsh.....maybe making it a smoother transition would improve the piece even more
a very nice piece nonetheless

No problem Karl, thanks for the inspiration. I'm going to stick with these sunset scenes for a little while I think.

And at the time you probably thought those were the best thing ever created...just like I did. Actually those aren't too bad either.

xD What are you talking about? They suck major ass!
But you're right. I kept them on display, secretly showing off to all my friends how awesome I was...ugh, I don't even do that now that I have a good technique
