Description
This drawing is a David vs Goliath piece...the classic small guy vs the giant. I thought it’d be fun to have Hulk duke it out with a small character but didn’t know which one to choose. My friend David Wong often spoke of Gir as a fan favorite so I thought why not use it? After watching a few episodes of Invader Zim to familiarize myself, I found Gir to be the perfect foil for Hulk on many levels: green gnat vs green monster, the funny robot vs the seriously serious rage beast, Costello vs Abbott.
My personal take on the classic Hulk in that I referenced my eyes, nose and hands which I basically “Hulk-anize”. For added comic relief, I’ve layered Hulk Hands onto Gir (I was using them as additional reference and realized how funny it would be to incorporate them into the scene). I also added Loki’s costume based on the film Avengers (thanks again, Dave W for the input and the dialogue bubble!) to create a Gir/Loki hybrid that we can call "Gloki". If you've seen the movie, then this drawing makes sense! Piggy, as Thor, or Thiggy also made absolute sense to connect him to Gloki.

This looks awesome! And my money's on GIR, since he's survived pretty much everything, and is annoyingly persistent. I figure the Hulk would eventually just give up and go home.
