Description One more "Christmas Raccoons" screencap...and a very sad one this time. The Evergreen Forest has been saved from the menace of Cyril Sneer, for time time being, but there is still one matter to take care of-Bert, Ralph, and Melissa still have nowhere to call home thanks to Cyril Sneer. Schaeffer has to head back home to his humans, and our furry heroes tag along with him since they have nowhere to turn to. Along the way, they pass by the broken stump that marks where the Raccoondominium once stood. Schaeffer wishes he could help them, but he can't think of anything that could be of help to them. He leaves them near his cabin, as Bert, Ralph, and Melissa wish him a Merry Christmas. He wishes them one too and tells them to not give up hope. But it looks like our heroes already have given up hope. They look so sad here. Poor Melissa is drying her tears with her husband's scarf (wonder why his scarf changed colors from red to white?) and Bert and Ralph both just look quite glum. It looks like it's destined to be a sad Christmas for our furry heroes...This is definitely a pretty darn sad scene. This actually got me thinking about the actual plight of homeless people. What would it be like to be homeless for Christmas? Or homeless in general? It seems like it'd be such a miserable life...I sincerely hope I never have to find out what that's like...

I haven't seen this special in a long time but this is really sad.

my dad works for a charity that helps homeless people that have disabilities.

I could never imagine being homeless especially in really cold places where I live....

Yeah, I definitely feel bad for the homeless. I feel even worse for Bert, Ralph, and Melissa here since unlike actual human beings, there isn't any way they could go to a homeless shelter or some other place that could shelter them from the harsh weather seeing as they're wild animals. They have to sit out there and suffer in the cold alone...

Poor raccoons and poor wild animals who are left homeless....

it is depressing, though "Time Warp" is equally as such

find i fascinating that Bert, Melissa and Ralph's fur is brown in this special but on Raccoons on Ice onward the fur is grey

You're leaving the screengrabs on this?! I demand more happier screengrabs! But yeah it is pretty sad to see them like this, though Bert looks tired or stoned more then saddend at the lost of their home.

Bert looks stoned pretty much throughout this whole special...this is his typical look in the special Funny, I thought Ralph was supposed to be the ex-hippie? (At least the character biographies said so...) I could at least believe Ralph was an ex-hippie, seeing as he by far is the one most actively concerned about the well being of the Forest...It's funny that Ralph is nearly as goofy as Bert as well. For as responsible and serious as Ralph is, I can definitely imagine him having a hidden goofier side to him. It's probably very well hidden, though...it only comes out on certain occasions. Like when he's had too much to drink Oh, I wouldn't say Ralph is an alcoholic by any means, but I can see him getting 'soused' from time to time. I can imagine him being a lot more fun when he's drunk

Ah, dammit, I knew I should have saved that little Christmas postcard for last! If I'd have known this was going to be the last "Christmas Raccoons" screengrab I was going to put up, I would have saved that postcard! Well, I have another screencap from that scene that I may post but...it's a lot sillier looking Besides, I do want to post some Raccoons on Ice screencaps too!

And yes, this is a pretty sad scene. Could you imagine what it would be like to live like this? Having no home to call your own? Possibly having to spend many days living as a drifter?

Well it seems you have more screengrabs to come from the On Ice special, so I guess this does sooften the blow from this picture, though now I wonder about this goofier image.

Some people do travel a lot and don't have a home and they cope OK, but yes those without a roof over their heads must really feel awfull and the Govenments of the world aren't doing anything about it as usual...just a mini-rant about humanity in general, trust me you don't want to hear the ultimate but logical outcome.

Perhpas Bert took one or two remaining pills that Ralph had and after Bert did that, Ralph is like 'that's it I'm staying clear from those things. I'll just stick to the occasional wine at Christmas'.

Yeah, although I kind of already put up some of the happier scenes from "On Ice" LAST YEAR Yeah, I need to get some more happier screencaptures...Oh, it's a really silly looking image when you look at it out of context, and that's probably why I'm not sure I should put it up. Bert and Melissa's noses are so close together it almost looks like they're about to kiss Plus Ralph is looking goofy in the background of that image as well. I dunno, I think if whatever reason Bert decided to kiss Melissa, I think Ralph would get mad as hell and slap the crap out of him "Dammit, Bert, find your OWN girl! Melissa's already taken!" LOL, that would be funny as hell to write, drunken Bert accidentally kisses Melissa

Pills...? Oh God, Ralph's not an ecstasy user, is he Yeah, I can't really see Ralph as being an alcoholic, though, as I said, I can see him having a drink every now and then...and being a completely different 'coon when he's had a few to drink. I think you saw this in "Beat the Clock"...in the scene where Ralph and Melissa (shortly after deciding they were going to try to have children) are trying to fool around and Ralph was playing with her breasts...Both he and Melissa were a little drunk, and definitely being more silly and goofy than they are when they're not! Heheh, I can actually see Ralph being a very poor drunk (getting drunk after just a few drinks or so). Which would be funny since I portrayed Ralph's father to be one of the legendary "Super Drunks": those who can consume 20+ beers at one time and still be standing afterwards!

Well, of course if you've got something like an RV you live in, that would still technically classify as a home since you permanently live in it...it just never stays in one place for long But yeah, it is pretty sad imagining homeless life, with no guarantee that anyone will take pity on you and want to help make things better than they are. I feel even sorrier for our furry heroes here because unlike actual people, they don't even have the possibility that there might be homeless shelters nearby they could stay in!

There must be a town nearby or something that they could have stayed at but Bert probably wouldn't have approved of the idea anyway.

You should probably consider writing a short about ralph getting hammered quite so easily..Ok maybe not pills, but cigarettes that Bert thought were full of harmless tobacco but it's fuilled with something else and now stoned wants to make out with Melissa and drunken Ralph can't do a thing to stop him...what have we come up here?

In my Raccoons fanfics, there actually IS a nearby town neighboring the edge of the Forest. In my stories, it's called Spruceton. I actually imagine the Evergreen Forest is pretty darn large and well spread out...so it could have a decent sized population (3-4,000 people/anthros at the most, I'd imagine) spread out all over the Forest. Spruceton (as I'd envision it) would be a fairly typical small town community located at the Forest's edge...no more than 5,000 people/anthros, but it would a few more amenities than the Forest itself would have. If our heroes wanted to shop or find something they couldn't typically find around the Forest, they might make trips to Spruceton in my stories...

Haha, wow, that's a pretty crazy idea. Raccoons On Drugs. I know you might not like hearing this, but I COULD actually see Ralph having a small amount of marijuana hidden around the Raccoondominium somewhere. Maybe Bert accidentally found Ralph's secret stash and smoked it, and now suddenly finds himself physically attracted to Melissa (or maybe, he's high enough to where he sees Lisa instead of Melissa )... I don't see Ralph as someone who'd abuse drugs...but I CAN see him as lighting one up every now and then. To me...he just seems like the kind who would every once in a while. Hell, Melissa might do it with her husband We don't know what the two of them do when Bert isn't around, do we...? I do admit I laughed imagining Ralph and Melissa spending an evening alone toking up together Great, now I'm almost certain to write a scene towards the end of Melissa's story in which she and Ralph do exactly that

Hmmm I can now imagine an alt story about the trio moving out of the forest and into Spruceton right about now.

You probably have seen images by on Furaffinity of a certain raccoon friend of yours getting baked and even drew a picture which you can see on FA and on hbere of Bert and Ralph drunk.

I'm not sure I could actually see them leaving the Forest for Spruceton, but I actually imagine the Raccondominium being not all that far from Spruceton, actually. If our heroes wanted to visit a larger grocery store, a warehouse store, buy jewelry, or eat at a more upscale restaurant than the Blue Spruce Cafe, they might pay a visit to Spruceton.

Yeah, I saw her little drawing of Ralph lying back toking up And Ralph and Bert drunk together. Like I said...now that you put the idea in my head, I'm almost guaranteed to write a scene in Melissa's story featuring Ralph and Melissa spending an evening alone at the Raccoondominium before they're married lying back and sharing a few joints with each other Well, I guess that's one way for a young couple to spend time bonding with each other...maybe not the smartest way, though!

I'll let the drugs thing slide since it is your story and since they're young silly kids in this story who don't know any better, there I said it.

Spruceton sounds like you got the name from the Blue Spruce Cafe, perhaps said cafe is on the way there?

GoodCaptainClack In reply to David31 [2012-12-15 18:35:37 +0000 UTC]

Well, more like young adults than young kids, but still I just hope I don't piss someone off by doing that and have someone tell me I just corrupted their childhood

I suppose it could be...I don't really know where I got the name for Spruceton. I think I just made that up on the fly...I have a habit of just pulling names for people and things out of nowhere.

In America, many people still call young adults kids, I thought you would have known that.

It must have been your sub-conscious thinking of the Blue Spruce cafe that maybe helped you to come up with that name...maybe?
