Description Shouldn't this be your flag, every country ever? After all, the large countries of the world keep crumbling into smaller bits all because its ethnic groups would rather be by themselves rather than part of a large, strong country. However, nationalism is also the glue that holds some of the world's best and brightest together, such as Italy and Germany who were split up once upon a time, and also the two Koreas, who despite their differences still seek eventual reunification.

This flag is not intended to be related in any way to Saudi Arabia, except for the fact that I used their flag as a base for this (obviously).

This is intended to be my submission for #MapsAndFlags 's Unity contest.

UPDATE 09/04/2011: Yay, it won!

Maybe it would have better for Europe and the rest of the world if Germany had remained divided.... We can't really consider this country is "great".

Yes Germany did much wrong in the past but most of its population werent alive when ww2 was going on.
There is no "great" country.
There is no country that did everything perfect. China has is a dictatorship, the US killed alot of native americans, france and belgium had a racist and authoritarian coloial past. The scandinavian countries had alot of wars in the past. If you say that Germany should be divided because of its horrible past, we should divide all countries.

v- There's nothing wrong with communism, if you wish for a direct-democratic way for those who actually make the resources in one's area/commune/country to have control over them. That is, if you follow the Marxist principles, and don't get mislead by the state-capitalist regimes, who have over the years claimed to be socialist.

There's a difference between nationalism, and being fond of ones culture. There's nothing positive about blindly following the leads of ultra-conservative just because they call themselves "truer".

Nothing wrong with Nationalism, except when it goes into the extreme nature

Well, it is currently considered to be nonsense as nations are basically mere products of people's thoughts ...

In that sense, then, there should be far more nations on the earth, as in todays times no two or three people share simular thoughts. Not even in a family unit.

Yes, but a nation is not defined by opinions by that theory, but by people identifying with that nation for one reason or another. That is why there are 81 million Germans, while they do not agree on most things, they feel a part of the greater community of the nation of "Germany". How else would you define a nation?

i have to admit you got me there. That basically is the way to define a nation.

I think it's on the teaching list (?) for this year, though. "Theories of nationalism; Nationalism in Germany 1806-1918" ...

Lol, yea, says the nazi guy... But you caught me, I did use the dark red and gold of communist flags on here

OffizierHashem In reply to Goodyob [2011-09-09 16:08:25 +0000 UTC]

still, it shows a very good concept & I understand where you get the colors from, for better or worse, it's a part of you (being of Russian origins).

I'd rather say that Nationalism has two faces. The flag above is more in line to the destructive form rather than productive, beneficial patriotism.

My bad. I was referring to patriotism. Patriotism and nationalism are two different things, apparently.

kazi2000 In reply to mdc01957 [2011-09-05 13:47:02 +0000 UTC]

Indeed Patriotism it's a form of discret but profound love for the country, culture, traditions, religion etc. It is not loud and "in your face", it's where it should be (in your heart) and it doesn't involve hating other peoples and the false belief that ones country, culture, ethnicity etc is the best in the world and far superior to anything that exists in the world.
The nationalism is the exact opposite ! It's loud and rude and it causes a lot of harm.
