Study of FireReference: [link]
It was soooooooooo haaaaaaaaaaaaard to figure out how to capture the essence of that flame and really make this picture come alive! And the scan dampened it even more. *sigh* The oranges and reds are much more nuanced when you look at it under natural light.

I CANNOT believe that you actually managed to draw fire.

This was the first of your pieces that I ever saw, and it is very good! I applaud your bravery to attempt to draw fire in the first place, and this is a good rendering with colored pencil. Original colors must be better in real life (scanners don't seem to do colored pencils very well at all), but you have done a first-rate job at capturing the swirling, weaving lines of the reference. I like your composition better than the ref, actually--the vertical format seems right for the placement of the negative space. Good work!

Yeah, the scanner made the reds and oranges much more apparent than they are under natural light...
Thank you very much for the thoughtful comment!! It really means a lot to me!

Thanks! But the real test is to create the same feel without a reference. It's crazy hard! But eventually I'll be able to do it! ^^
