Description Contest entry for Contest. The prompt was to draw your team in a scene from the game.

So, this is Team Calliope, comprised of Miranda the Charmander and Chloraphyll (Chlora) the Chikorita.

=== PKMN MD2 SPOILERS BELOW ===

I get the feeling the scene I chose was a little... unorthodox. It's the one right at Crystal Lake, after Miranda and Chlora have been owned by Grovyle, and Chlora refuses to stop defending Azlef and get out of Grovyle's way. So, with little choice, he attacks her, asking her to forgive him as he does so. A moment later, Dusknoir appears just in the nick of time to save Chlora from very possibly being killed, but this is right before then.

=== END SPOILERS ===

As I said, scene is probably a little unorthodox, but when your muse walks up to you and says "DRAW THIS NOW," take my advice and don't argue.

Also FYI, there is actually NO BLOOD in this piece. The contest requirements said no blood/gore (perfectly understandable and I agree with them), so I just did that thing that they do in the anime where they put a lot of dirt smudges or whatever those are when things are going badly for a Pokemon in battle. It works, so I'm sticking with it.

I'm pretty proud of my effort on this piece. I tried my best, no matter how bad or well it does in the contest. Besides, it was fun to draw. :3 I got to work on rocks and perspective and all that stuff that are my weaknesses. Anyway...

Enjoy!

I remember that when I got to that point, I imagined that I'd try to force myself up so I could take the blow for Joseph (my Totodile partner)

Being a Chimchar made that fight very easy for me

Yeah. Fire types help. I was a Charmander and found Smokescreen was an UTTER LIFESAVER. UTTER. I don't know how I lived without it. And on the whole I didn't, because Charmanders get Smokescreen at level 10.

But anyway, Smokescreen makes it so that, unless your foe has a natural immunity (like Dialga), you use Smokescreen on them, and (even with bosses) you can have a good 5 turns where they can throw their worst and it WON'T HIT. At ALL.

It's brilliant.

I recognize this scene, and...Grovyle's Leaf Blade ftw. ^v^ I really liked how you drew the character's emotions out as well, and great background as well.

You know, my favorite cutscene from the entire game was the part when Azelf summons out the crystals from the ground as the cavescape pans from the left to the right side of the screen. ^v^

*fave

Thanks very much for the fave! ^^

Thanks for the feedback! The expressions and the background are two things I worked particularly hard on. I'm glad it shows! ^^

Yeah, that was a pretty awesome cutscene. And smart of Azlef too, to have a backup plan. Although later we found out that that was a bad thing, not a good thing.

And the perspective is great too

Thanks a lot! I've always thought of rocks/cave walls as a sort of weakness of mine, so I'm really happy to be receiving some positive feedback about it! ^^

Yes it was... I rewatched it a couple times while I was working (ah, the miracles of Youtube), and.. to be honest I just love wicked dramatic scenes like that... Particularly when they're well-done.

Thanks very much! ^^ Glad you liked it!

Wicked dramatic scenes are the best!
They make me happy.

Doesn't look bad to me at all! Even the perspective. The dirt smudges are well placed.

I noticed some rectangular boxes near Miranda... are those supposed to be there?

Gorsecloud In reply to Shreedle [2008-06-27 20:46:02 +0000 UTC]

Oh, those are just more crystals, they're just shaped differently. I used a bit of a ref [link]

They're merely vertical crystals shaped like Hexagons when viewed from the top. ^^

The perspective was mostly a brat when I started it... I just couldn't get it right, must've started it like five times. It didn't help that I was having trouble editing Chapter 5. And I was hungry. My bad mood compounds when I'm hungry... But then I ate dinner, and was soon bouncing off the walls again. Heh. That's me for ya.

Ah, that explains it.

XD We all have troubles. For example, I cannot draw hands for the life of me. They always turn out weird.
