because old version Valen was kinda...to badass in my opinion for no real reason, and character should earn it in flashbacks or story itself

Exactly! His first version was too bratty, to say the least. I love characters with strong will, he acted just like a big bastard. Now we can see, that he became more polite and kind, which can not but please me. ^^
