Description This is the lab design I generally use when I play Minecraft with the Fossils & Archaeology Revival Mod.
It's a heavily renovated F&A Academy structure, with some minor additions and alterations.

This is actually the Lab design's 2nd iteration, as the original had blocks from the Metallurgy mod, which I have since stopped using.
The one pictured was actually just "printed" from the updated Buildcraft blueprint I made of the original Lab. You can see the Builder unit still in-place at the corner of the structure.

I am also considering creating a 3rd iteration of this design at some point, so feedback or suggestions for improvementsΒ would be very much appreciated.

I will point out that I use a custom texture pack, so most of the blocks may not be immediately recognisable.
If anyone wants to know the blocks I've used in this building's construction, just ask and I can give you the block-list.

I have indeed made houses in them. Usually the very top floor, leaving the rest as a lab, but I've also done complete renovations of them into small mansions.

Yeah, they are great for making mansions. XD

If it is possible, may i see the interior of this design? I am currently building it in an F&A modpack and would like to know how to build the interior. Thanks!

If you look at my other screenshots, you can find interior shots of all my lab builds.

By the way, what are those brown and white things sticking out of the ground near the ent-trees? The ones dotted around randomly?

Also, is that a raptor pen/hatchery I spy next to that village?

The little brown "plants" I think are called "Rotten Piles". They're from the Pam's Mob Drop Crops mod.
Really useful actually, that mod, as it lets me get drops from hostile mobs, while still playing on peaceful.
You can also craft seeds for the crops, by combining the particular mob-drop you want with regular seeds. The only real downside, is they can only be planted in Soul-Sand.

As for the fencing in the far background, that's my early test-build for JP-Builder style enclosures.
There's actually 2 slightly different ones there, and both were used to test various methods of feeding the F&A dinos, like the Pteranodon and Gallimimus.
The larger one has also been converted to an aquatic enclosure prototype.

Unfortunately I don't have very good screenshots of them, as the ones I took were for very specific parts of the fencing and the viewing-port (very loosely based off the one in Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis).

Well since the majority of the structure is the same as the original F&A Academy, the time-consuming part was really just replacing every block with stuff like quartz. Which admittedly, took a fair while.
In the 1st iteration, it had some of the blue metal blocks from Metallurgy, which I've since replaced with mossy-cobblestone and iron blocks for this 2nd iteration.
The base might look a bit high in this design, mainly because I tend to sink structures down into the ground by at least one block.

Hmm... any suggestions to add to a planned 3rd iteration?

Hmm... maybe some water features by the entrance? Similar to the fountain at the original JP welcome centre, and also to the pond outside the HQ of deCode Genetics in ReykjavΓk:Β www.dv.is/media/cache/c5/b8/c5…

If I were to make one of these, I would make a little 1 block deep pond with a water spring or fountain in the centre. The bottom of the pond itself would be mostly gravel, cobblestone and mossy cobblestone, with a few bits of glowstone here and there. The pond would be surrounded by stone bricks, stone brick stairs, or possibly stone slabs.

Water lilies, harvestcraft seaweed and/or Plant Mega Pack/Biomes o' Plenty shenanigans on the water's surface optional.
(harvestcraft cranberry plants might also be possible if they can be planted on water, as they add some colour while still being very small)

AΒ water-feature certainly seems like a nice idea.
I have built fountains outside one before, and even made a lava variant too.
I also have similar falls to JP's Visitor Centre out the front of the one I've built in my current game-world.
Could possibly add them as a permanent feature for the 3rd iteration.

When I start working on that, I'll have a play around with some water-features and see what works.
Thanks for the suggestion.

What do you mean by that? I've never used the Forestry mod, so I'm not over familiar with it.

You're basically breeding dinos instead of bees. give it a try when you can, personally I enjoy F&A more than Forestry's bee breeding.

I have read up on Forestry since your comment, and whilst I can sort of see what you mean, I still don't think I would call F&A "Forestry's bees in disguise", as they are still quite different.
But I might give Forestry a try some day, perhaps when I consider my F&A project done.
