Description
I'm not sure if many of you have seen the science fiction film Dune(not the 80's version, the newer one) or Children of Dune, but I think they are spectacular. They are much closer to the books and overall just enjoyable movies. To me Children of Dune is better than Dune, so I decided(since I love manips) to do a manipulation piece on the movie. The picture is of Leto Atriedes's(sp?) hand coming up out of the sand after a sandstorm(which is said that only the worms can tolerate and survive) and he starts to change and morph into one of the worms. Considering the power behind the family, I thought it only fitting to use such a title. Hope you like.

huge dune fan. hated the first movie. and i do mean the very first one where paul made it rain at the end.
the acting was horrid. and it really lost the true essence of the novels, well imo.
i really like this piece. it more reminds me of lato II, god emperor, he ruled as a tyrant to keep humanity on the golden path.
very well done indeed.

The David Lynch film had several strong points. A. Much of the dialog is word for word from the book. Especially inner dialog. B. The casting was pretty close to what one would imagine from descriptions in the book. With the big exception of Gurney Halleck.
The scifi mini series took a lot of liberties. They made Paul into a petulant wimp, nothing like the books, he whines and complains. Not to mention many of the actors do not seem to fit the descriptions in the book.
IMHO the David Lynch film did the spirit of the book more justice. Oh, and Frank Herbert did like the film

i've watched the movie several time, and still don't really like it. the actors as far as the features, i think were chosen well, but i think some of the acting was a bit over the top, i think they may have tried too hard.
reading the book, you would never expect the lady jessica to react like the actress did when she realized her duke was dead. some reaction yes, but not like that. she was always calm and collected even under the most stressful situations.
and the part where they point the gun and say mau'dib to make it shoot, reminded me of a bunch of kids playing cops and robbers or cowboys and indians, point the finger, say bang, you're dead.
all the movies have the plus and minuses, but i thik peter jackson would do a great job with it.
either way you look at it, i don't think any movie will capture the true essence of dune and its characters.

I have to agree! Have you seen this?

Last week news emerged that Taken director Pierre Morel was brought on-board to direct Dune, replacing previously attached director, Peter Berg. This came as a bit of surprise as two other fairly big directors ? The Descent?s Neil Marshall and District 9?s Neill Blomkamp ? were likely candidates to take over where Berg left. Nonetheless, I think Morel is a solid choice even if he isn?t the first director I?d think of for the project.
Dune Movie Gets A New Screenwriter

The Hollywood Reporter says that Chase Palmer has been hired to tackle the "Dune" script for Paramount's planned adaptation. According to the report, Palmer will integrate Morel's ideas into the story, which should result in a movie experience fairly close to the source material.

OMG! NO! Yes that would be awesome!!
The Dune series has so much to offer, and there is a lot of wisdom in it too. if people would really think about it.
the litany against fear is on the wall near my desk. they really have some great sayings in it.
excited!!

I can't view the hand photo you linked to. I was hoping it might be a stock photo from an actual stock site so I could use it too. I've been looking for that particular pose for a piece I wanted to do for my boyfriend, lol.

I was doing the same at the start of the strike. Then I got distracted rewatching Battle Star Galactica and Star Trek Voyager.
