Description Samus Aran Lego Mosaic, this one is free-standing (if it were real). The last freestanding one I made included pieces of varying heights. I started to make this one that way, but these pieces are not common to most people's Lego collection, so all bricks are standard height. Full-size image is 1280x1024.

The best compliment I can give you is: "1900 x 1080 widescreen, please?" [link]

well it really wouldn't look very different. I mean, the image is narrow so wide screen would just add more black to the sides, and increasing the height form 1024 to 1080 would be barely noticeable. It would be essentially the same effect if you set it as a wallpaper, center it, and set your desktop background to black.

Now that I've tried that, I feel really sheepish. That was a very obvious solution.

...In any case, this work is stellar!

what program did you use?

A multitude of programs that run on the LDraw.org database. I use a program that automatically makes mosiacs then I replace all the pieces so it looks like something that could really be built. The mosaic program just helps me pick colors really. then it's rendered in POV-Ray.

Thanks, I used the default lighting since I'm not very good with POV-Ray. it looks great on my stand-up models but dreadful on the flat ones (Like my GMail or Facebook ones for instance). I haven't found a good set up for those yet.

I didn't know Povray had a default. It looks like 3 light sources plus ambient light. I think the flat ones may look better with just one and some ambient light (so the shadows will not be totally black).

just 3 bright lights. if there's a code for ambiencce I haven't found it yet. but, again I'm not very good with it.

I normally include something in the top of my script to set a global ambient light like this:

#default { finish {ambient 0.6}}

You can play with the value... if you set it too high you lose your shadows. I think you can set the ambient on any object that has a finish if you don't want it set globally.
